Here in the northeast U.S. we've had several days of great weather so I've repotted a number of plants and moved them outdoors. I normally grow under lights in the basement. I have an unheated polyhouse that I moved them into this evening because it's supposed to get down to 46-47 degrees. (Currently about 50)They've only gotten that cold in the basement once and I got a little unnerved.

What's out there are a few cattleyas, a brazilian miltonia, a Brassidium, a couple vandas, and my reed stem epi's. The temp at 10:15 p.m. in the polyhouse is 54.9 degrees. I could certainly bring them all in the house in a few trips but am I being overly concerned?

I'm repotting to clear up an ant problem and don't want to move them back into my growing area and realize that I could just leave them in the kitchen or dining room or something. Your thoughts?

If you are questioning it and have concern .. I would bring them in .. better safe than sorry

I have to agree with you Dorothy. Sometimes the involvement with our orchids are more challenging when we have to worry about our little guys:biggrin:

I agree. Bring them in just in case, you don't want to stress out your plants too much by temp fluctuations

Thanks for the suggestions. It never dropped below 51.4 inside the polyhouse that night so I feel o.k. Last night however, it was close to 54 and yet we had a pre- dawm dip into the mid 40's but it's already back in the 50's now that the suns up. I probably should have waited a few weeks but I can't believe nature is that exact in their nautural habitat.

Glad the temps held out!

They aren't growing or have been raised in their natural habitat. They aren't use to the rigors to endure the outdoor temperatures as those who have established themselves in nature have. They are use to a more controlled environment by the nature of their propagation and growth.
I am not saying the our orchids are wimps .. :fight
so much as I am saying .. best be on the safe side when considering the elements! (especially the cold)
