Valentine's gift with no name, please help
3 Attachment(s)
Received this as a gift and have no idea what it is. I was told that it loves the sun and wind so hang it in a tree (I live in Costa Rica) and that it has pink (or red--missed that bit in translation) and grey flowers and is very fragrant. Any ideas? I know it will be easier once the flowers open, just would like to head in the right direction for care. Thanks.

I'm afraid I can't help with what it is, just thought I would give this post a bump in the hope someone will come along soon who can help. :bump:

It looks like an Encyclia to me. It will be easier to tell when the flowers open.
I would keep it shaded during mid day and let it get morning and/or evening sun. |
i vote encyclia also....gl with it and enjoy! be sure and post the blooming pictures here too!

Thanks everyone for your help. I will assume it is an encyclia and treat it as such. Will post photos once it blooms. I was also gifted with a Guaria (c. skinneri) the Costa Rican national flower and it to is in bud so can't wait for it to bloom as well.

It is indeed an Encyclia, but you will need to wait until the flowers are open to see if you can identify it. If you are lucky, it will be one of the easy ones to identify (like cordigera), but most encyclias are pretty difficult to identify...
