Dendrobium bullenianum

Dendrobium bullenianum, also called Dendrobium topaziacum, is popular here.
Though it is not a native species, it has been grown for a long time.
Nowadays, the seedlings are easily available. Some crosses of it have been made, too.

Beautiful photo - what a nice bright group of flowers.
Is this deciduous? Warm-growing?
Cheers - Nancy

Nancy
It is an intermediate grower but it prefers warm temperature.
It is semi-deciduous and the spikes occur on this leaveless canes.

Ah! I thought your climate was fairly similar to our deep south. Perhaps this is one that would do well here.
Pheli - is it late fall in Taiwan?
The dendrobium species have some really wonderful plants! This is certainly a beauty.

Nancy, it is late fall or early winter here.
I am located in north Taiwan where the day temp. is about 65~70°F and night temp. is about 60-65 °F recently. If the cold front hits, the temp will drop to 50°F.
The species grows well in my garden. But some southern species, such as Dend. antennatum or Dend. stratiotes, dislike the cold dry winter here.

I got one of these at the World Orchid Conference but it hasn't bloomed yet.

Nancy, mine seems to be growing nicely in the heat here (not the cold of the past few days but the rest of it ;) )...I'm hoping to see some action come springtime :crossfing
