mounting of unknown wood

I made a bad no no, I picked up a board from a pile of wood that was part of an old fence, I cut it into 12'' pcs and mounted some C. intermedia on them , three of them, when the first new roots started to touch the boards the roots tips died and the rot started up the root, I quess some one had treated the boards to prevent rot and it is not good for orchids, I have transferd the plant to tree fern slabs and all seems fine , so be careful what you use to mount with.

Exterior wood is often Pressure treated (fencing,Deck, ect...). I thought that it wouldn't be a good idea to use PT lumber but have never tired it, thanks I will make sure not to.
