pics of growing areas

Just thought i would post a few pics of my modest growing area. A mixed bag of chids that contain Brassia, Stanhopea, Dracula, Masdevallia, Phalaenopsis, Paphiopedilum, Dendrobium, Oncidium, and Mitassia. I keep the humidty up by using a humidifier on the bottom rack wich also provides air movement. Temps run about 67-72 degrees durring the day and about 62-64 at night. HUmidity stays at about 84% with spikes into the 90% range at night. Light is from a south facing window that is currently covered with sheers. This seems to keep the chids happy through the winter untill they can be put outdoors durring the summer.

Nice setup, bcub! Where are you located?

Hi Susanne. I am located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The winters are rather long up here so I have to take advantage of all the mild weather I can! This setup seems to keep most of the chids going throught the cold months.

Are you using lights? What kind? Nice setup.

Nice set up bcub, I have been wondering about a humidifyer in the home and how often it should be running. I have a great concern with mold and mildew. I grow indoors year around and my humidity flucuates but wanted to keep it at a even variable. What is your regimen? Your chids look very happy

lol Hey scott whats up. I probably have the same set up, but I got the two teir mini greenhouses in my living room. Except what i did was put a heavey guage wire at the tops of both of my greenhouses right at the apex. then set two 4' shop lights on top. I also used egg crate for the back and all the sides, this is for my mounted miniatures ( hint) (hint) the plastic sides can be drilled through so you can secure the egg crate with zip ties. I also have two 12 volt cp cooling fans on 24 7 for good air circulation. I,m getting a digitial camera for christmas I hope! : 0 ) If I do i,ll send some pics your way of my set up.

Clayton, I just noticed you are from Tonawanda. I was born and raised in LaSalle before Niagara Falls sucked it up  Haven't been back there since early 60s though.

Nice setup! Your 'chids look fantastic.
I recently started using my humidifier, which is 20 + years old (but looks new), works well, but is loud like hell. DO they make quiet ones now in days?

Nice set up. Plants look healthy and happy. Do they get any natural light from a window?

*edit*...DUH on me...looking closer i think I see a window right behind them....so I guess they do get good light.

Ingenious setup you have there. One problem though, you're gonna need more space. So what is that big leafy plant on the top shelf to the right?
