What conditions do Blc. Campobello Mendenhall like?
I've recently aquired a blc.campobello mendenhall. A couple of its leaves have turned black and fallen off. What sort of conditions do these plants like? I have a couple Phal's in the same room that appear to be doing well but the new one is not. Thanks

same cattleya culture. you can visit the AOS you can get a culture sheet for a cattleya. They enjoy bright direct or inderect light. Water them as you would on other orchids as long as you they'll be dry by night.

Cattleyas like a lot more light than do phals, and can generally take a bit cooler conditions (not that they need them, it's more a case that phals prefer it warmer). However, a lck of light is not likely to be the culprit, based upon the blackening leaves.
As the leaves are dying, and this is not the case of bacterial rot that occurs in the rhizome and pseudobulbs, I recommend that you unpot that puppy and check the root system. If it is in a state that cannot support the vegetation, leaves may drop, leaving the p-bulbs as storage vessels for the remaining growths. |
