Greenhouse is finished!

It's finished!!! After months and months (it was my birthday present in *June* ), electrical issues, contractors, frustration, and learning to use new power equipment (nail guns rock!) the greenhouse is finished! It's not huge (8x20) but it's mine!

We stripped the side off the garage, replaced the wood siding with cedar, replaced the covered patio with 8mm, double wall greenhouse plastic (thank you FarmTek), installed hanging racks, shelves, insulation, ongoing air circulation, lighting, and portable heating (on thermostats). We put pumps into large barrels of rainwater (you can see the "vanda corner" with the rainwater sprinkler going) set on timers. Every muscle has hurt at one time or another and I went through more caulk than you can imagine.

The orchids are in heaven and so am I. I can keep the temp at a 60degree minimum and the vents open at 80 degrees. The humidity stays at a minimum of 60%. I've got spikes, new roots, and some blooms like crazy.

It's going to be heaven when there is over 2 feet of snow on the ground. Yeah, I even have wireless Internet out there and a rocking chair. Shhhh, don't tell them where to find me this winter. ;)

Sorry, just had to gloat.

Looks good. I love being out in the GH in the winter when the snow is flying...it's like a mini vacation for me. Hope you have fun in yours this winter.

I'm already planning on putting a deadbolt on the inside and, perhaps, a port-o-potty.

There's no laundry or dishes out there, no dirty floors (I don't count leaves and water), no "what's for dinner". Yeah, I think I'll just move out there.

Nice oasis. I tell everyone it's my "happy place" :blushing:

you did a wonderfull job. what does the floor consists of? happy growing.

We built it on top of the concrete pad that was the covered patio's floor. The *only* thing that survived the demolition. :-)

That is really a dream come true. What a fantastic set-up you have created. I like your idea of a deadbolt lock on the inside.....total hideaway. I didn't see your lounge chair, Orchid book, and wine cooler.

Enjoy every minute you can spend there. After all that work you deserve it.

It looks WONDERFUL!!! So if we don't see you around on OB in the future, we'll know that you locked yourself in there with the 'chids! I'd love to have a 'happy place' like that.
