Woke up this morning and the first bud (of five) has finally opened! This is Cirrhopetalum Sheryl Kurizaki (Cirr. fascinator x Bulb. lasiochilum). It has that funny little Bulbo wobbling lip. Luckily I can't tell if it's a stinker, since I have a bad cold!

I really like that one, very cute! :)

This one smells a little fishy IMO, but not too bad. You will have plenty of flies around the flowers though! Yours seems to have gotten more influence from the lasichilum than mine. Lucky you!

I was also surprised at that. I got this one from Kawamoto, and the pics on their site (as well as the ones they sell on eBay) make it look like it has way more fascinator in it. Ah well, I guess no two ever turn out alike.

Well I like the flower morphology on this one! Very cool. Almost looks like a person dancing with a big hat and tiny feet.

Love the combination on this one, Stephen. Great looking flower. I've got both parents and another one called, Fantasy (Fascinator X ?). Hoping that one will give me some of the yellow, like yours.

Have I already asked you in another thread, how you're growing your Bulbo's? If not, how are you growing your Bulbos?

Great growing!

I agree! While this is one of my fav vendors here on Oahu (I was actually there yesterday!), but I was a bit dissapointed by the dominance of the lasiochilum in the cross as compared with the photo. Oh well!

Very nice, Stephen! Love it. Though I'm not a big fan of that dead fish smell, and I already had my share of it very recently with another Bulbo/Cirrho.

Great growing!

I grow them in shallow plastic Vanda baskets, in straight sphagnum moss with a bit of perlite tossed in to keep it more open. (I've been following another thread with some interest, folks experimenting with tree fern fibers instead of perlite to help keep the moss from compacting. Might try that next year.) I water just as the moss is starting to dry out, so the plants stay pretty moist; I feed every watering with weak MSU.

Bulbos love to wander, so I just take the growing leads and pin a few roots back into the moss at the sides of the mesh, which helps keep the plant somewhat manageable.

Mine are all on the same shelf as the Cattleyas, but toward the front of the shelf so they're out from under the lights (T5 bulbs) and get less direct light than the Catts. I have a fan on 24/7.
