what do pot sizes mean?

alas another question:blushing: . must be fun to answer all these:) . so what does a pot size refer to. like say i had a 4 inch pot. is it refering to the pot depth or the width of the top of the pot from edge to edge?:scratchhead:

Generally, pot size means the width of the pot given that it is a standard pot. I use some squat pots which means that the depth of the pot could be the same or smaller than the width.

Yes what Roy said.

And can I just point out that only in the orchid world does size matter..........((COUGH)) ((COUGH))

Do you mean which orchids? Well smaller orchids like to be in smaller pots. Nothing likes to be 'overpotted' and so you should put a plant in a pot that has no more than enough room for 2 years growth.

You get a feel for this as you grow plants. I have my plants in pots depending on the size of the plant and not depending on the type of plant.

Does that make sense?

Psychopsis like to be underpotted ;) as well as Bc. Maikai... also some Cymbidiums...

P.S.- I was talking about Buildings!!!
