Bulbo's in Sphagnum
 

Thought you might like to see my re-pots that I did this afternoon on a few of my Bulbos. I'm using a different medium than I have in the past and finally figured a way to use sphag. where it doesn't get weighed down or suffocate the roots, by adding equal amounts of CHC and about 1/4 the amount of tree fern fibers. I tried this on my B. makoyanum which has shown great results.

I hope any Bulbo enthusiasts reading this, feel free to add any advice or pointers or, just enjoy seeing mine!

Sandy, I don't have any advice or pointers for you, I don't grow any bulbos'.

I've seen CHC in a couple of other posts, and did a search for it, but it didn't seem to turn up. Can you tell me what that stands for? Thanks!

Hi, I wish I had read your post earlier. I just recently stumbled on combining my sphagnum with wood chips and/or cocounut husk chips for my potted bulbos. too, and almost immediately saw results in new growth. I don't have mine in baskets yet but will do so in future - yours are beautiful! This potting is the way I'm going to go for those bulbos. I have that are not mounted.

Otter, I've altered the medium once again since this post. I'm now using equal parts of tree fern fibers/sphag. and about 25% perlite added. The goal is to keep the medium aerated yet, keeping wet. I haven't seen these pics since I posted and I'm amazed at all the growth that's taken place in just a month! And, I'm also amazed (not really) at all the new ones that made their way to my shelves since then too!:coverlaugh:

Thanks for the posted info. I have two bulbos which I set on my kitchen counter yesterday to repot. They both came in spag and like you say it gets mushed down. Not sure I have any tree fern, if not, it's a good excuse to place an order with Kelly's Korner.

Mounting bulbos is not an option for me. Mounted plants hate me.
