Your gas stations?
My husband filled our gas tanks earlier today. Then we went out a little while ago and passed three stations that had cars snaked around the whole place and spilling into the streets! Reminded me of the pictures from the 70s when they were rationing the gas...
anybody else noticing this where you are? *I forgot to say that the station hubby filled up at had the price for regular taken down from the sign...they have none! |
There was a bit of a shortage due to IKE, Sue. We had a 10 gal. limit down here for awhile today. People are hoarding because of the hurricane and the anticepated price hike after the hurricane.
|
Yep your right about that Vanessa, last night gas was $3.53 today it's $3.79, and oh by the way went by the store and I got a Thank You card for Ike, I'll sign your's and Sue's name to it as well...
|
Well Not really a shortage, but more smoke and mirrors.. This is anticipating what the price should be IF there is damage to the 4000+ oil wells in the gulf or any of the refineries. This is speculation. In the Carolina's, gas had already gone up a dollar mid afternoon today with this nonsense of speculation. It is the dang speculating that drove the price up to begin with this past 2 years. I knew that by December 2008 gas would be $5 a gallon by hook for by crook.
OK I have to stop myself before I just explode. Can you tell this is my pet peeve? my sore spot? :(( Humble apologies (passed the microphone to the next person) |
( $3-53 a gallon, you don't know how lucky you are, in New Zealand it's $1-97.99 cents a litre = $7-91 us a gallon and thats for regular grade, sure digs into my orchid money:_( :_( :_(

The higher prices wasn't was took me by surprise...it was the fact that my regular gas station ran out of gas by yesterday afternoon! :faint:
Then seeing the traffic jam of folks trying to muscle their way into the other stations was kind of eerie :yikes: |

I would think that there would be a run on more than gas due to the hurricanes... what are the stores like? |
can we say "price gouging?"
|
The thing that really gets me, is that the fuel at the pumps was actually purchased months and months - if not a year - ago, yet every time the price of oil goes up, do does the price at the pumps within a day or two. I'm just waiting to see what happens (another increase, no doubt!) when they finally get to selling the stuff that they've paid more for.
PS. The prices we pay are mostly tax, so the government is raking it in along with the oil companies. So, there is £0.50 per litre in fuel duty, then there is VAT (17.5%) added onto that plus the actual cost of the fuel. |
Our gas (United States) would be higher, but it is subsidized. I heard a report some time ago that if it wasn't it would be near $8-$10 a gal. I don't recall which talk show I got that from but it was about 2 months ago.
