BIGGER IS BETTER???
I don't know if a mature plant like cymbidium or any other, with lots of seudobulbs is better than a new plant with only a few of them???
BIGGER IS BETTER??? The mature plant produce more flowers??? Or the new plant (a division of the old) has stronger flowers??? THANKS.... |
Depends. How much time you got? What's your level of patience? There is satisifaction in nuturing a plant to maturity and seeing the rewards of your labor. A big, mature plant brings you closer to instant gratification and certaintly should produce a showcase of blooms. Given a choice, most would probably take the mature plant over the smaller one. When budgets must be taken into consideration, we may have to choose the one that our finances will allow. Me, if it's a freebie and I can choose between the two, I'll take the more mature one.

The mature plant should be stronger with more old bulbs to nourish and support newer growths that are capable of flowering. So yes, the flowers should be better.
But don't forget mature plants take up more room in your growing area. Sometimes that's a problem. |
The bigger plant will also tend to be be more forgiving and probably better about to withstand some neglect and abuse. New growers may find that to be important in deciding which to get.
