Inquiry for warm growing, fragrant Coelogynes

I would appreciate a list of Coelogynes species that will do well in a warm growing environment ( Central Florida, Clearwater ) from experience forum members. It is my understanding that although most Coelogynes are intermediate to cool growers there are species that like intermediate to warm climates. I am particulary interested in species that are strongly fragrant. As always thanks for the help. Sources where they can be purchased would also be great. Regards

Orchidspecies.com will tell you which Coelogyne species are fragrant or not and they're growing temperature range requirements, geological regions were they're from and so on. You stroll down and click on the genus name of the orchid your interest in, under that genera, keep strolling to the specific species.

Thanks for the response however, the reality is that Orchidspecies.com is a great web site but they have orchids shown as not fragrant that are. I prefer to rely on " hands on " orchid fanciers Orchid species photos are marvelous. The data needs some work. Regards.

Hi Uechi.
I'm growing coelogyne. Especially borneo & celebes species. They do well in my garden. Mine would be coelogune cumingii, montleyii, pandurata, mayeriana, asperata, etc

Uechi,
I agree that IOSPE needs work on the culture side but the pix are FABULOUS !!

I'm growing 2 Coelogyne inside under lights but just started so I can't verify that they are warm growers like the sellers both said they were. I'll not forget to keep results posted as I've wanted Coelogyne ever since I first saw one and these are my first ! One's comingii and the other's a mossiae. Posted pix on my gallery.

Merlyn,
Try Coelogyne flaccida. It is easy to grow and flower and has such a strongly sweet scented perfume so as to give you a headache if you keep it indoors when flowering. I grow this species outside where temperatures range fro 2 to 40C. I grow it preferably in a clay pot in pine bark and in summer when temps go to 40C sometime I water often (sometimes every day). It is grown in about 40% sahde i.e. high light. I don't feed too often (about once every 1 - 2 months) and then use a "shotgun" (i.e. give it everything I have got) approach. Cannot really tell you which of my other Coelogynes are really perfumed.

I thank you for the input. I'm just starting into the Coelogyne addiction but wanted them from the beginning ! Got 3 now, comingii, mossiae, and South Carolina 'Maplewood'. The 'Maplewood' hasn't shown me its blooms yet but from pix looks a lot like pandurata, one I've ALWAYS drooled over !!

Merlyn,
do NOT be put off by what people say i.e. cooling growing. Give them a try. Grow them in clay pots which act as a built in evaporative cooling system. If you water (frequently when hot) do so in the afternoon so you create a drop in temperature at night.
Look for Coelogyne barbata, Coelogyne stricta (syn Coelogyne elata), Coelogyne mooreana, Coelogyne marmorata and Coelogyne cristata. I have not had a problem with these although I do not know if they are scented like Coelogyne flaccida. Enjoy them

Merlyn,
Hope that I have got this right but I have tried to attach a thumbnail of Coelogyne flaccida. If it does not work go to my photo gallery to see what it looks like

Thanks, got the thumbnail but "requires a password" to see the big pix ! That'a ok, I have 3 pix in my "from the net" collection ! It IS a beauty !! Twice over with a fragrance, I'll be on the quest !!
