does anyone have or know about this orchid?

I was looking online at web sites from different orchid growers and I saw this orchid and I MUST have it :-)

it's Vuyl Melissa Briane 'Shady Lady'

I never heard heard of a Vuyl Orchid. Does anyone grow one of these?

VULSTEKEARA (Vuyl) * (multi-hybrid between Miltonia, Cochlioda and Odontoglossum)

Just grow it like an Odontoglossum, bright light, constant moisture, cooler side of intermediate temperature. :goodluck:

I have this! It's a pretty slow-growing complex intergeneric cross as Ramon stated. It was in bloom (it's a beautiful coloring) when I got it and two years later has finally matured one of the growths enough to bloom. I don't think a cross as complex as this one is really a strong performer (at least for me). I keep it in south window, water/fertilize twice a week, and spray occasionally if it needs it. While a really beautiful flower with shades of purple, I don't think I'd ever buy one again. I think the Miltonia in the heritage makes it pretty finicky - not sure.

it's $30 for a blooming size one...and I really love the flower but I don't think I want to wait 2 yrs for the next flower..... :-(
For how long do they usually bloom?

That sounds pricey to me (think I paid $24.95 US for mine.) Right now that should be $15 Canadian? :scratchhead:  I am not saying you will need to wait two years. I just haven't had any luck with Miltonias and their hybrids lately. Think I am not doing something incorrectly. They are truly beautiful and if it's something you like, why not go for it? They are actually commonly found in stores that sell Phalenopsis in bloom. If you can find one already in bloom, so much the better. I've spent more than that on a bunch of cut flowers on Mother's day! :blushing:

As for blooming length, they are like most of the intergenerics - they last for many weeks. I can't tell for certain since it already was in bloom, but the display lasted for more than a month. I'll know more when this spike comes into blossom.

Oh good, it's not just me then! I've had one for about a year and it's doing nothing. I was thinking that I wasn't watering it enough (about once a week) but it looks like even 2x a week doesn't do it. :hmm The flower is so gorgeous though! Not that I've actually seen it in person but I can imagine from the pictures I've seen. If I had it to do over again I probably still would buy one. I REALLY want to see it bloom one day! I think I paid about $30 for mine but that including shipping. :)

They had this one at a local home depot (slightly different coloration) for 24.99. I was tempted but the flowers where on there way out and I think its to hot here for them. So I passed it up.

That's about what I paid and the flowers were drop-dead georgeous! Sarah, add more fertilizer (if you aren't already doing the 125ppm thing) and add more light. I think light's the thing.

Home Depot?? Oh wow...Whenever I go there (or Lowe's.....) they only have "plain" Phalaenopsis...... :(
(maybe that's not too bad because otherwise I probably would buy too many plants)
