Finally! An Outside Summer Setup!

Well... much as I love having my babies inside... I needed an outside shade house. I'm going to Germany for a little over 2 weeks next month, and I don't want to have to rely on people to take care of the orchids for me (I have 25 and it's enough of a challenge for me!) So I thought, Hey! I should put them outside!

Then the question was what to use to construct the shade house. This took a lot of thinking, as I am just a girl living by myself without a ton of time, and no handy big strong man to build things for me ;)

I went in to work one day and was talking to my friend about it, and she said she had an old cloth gazebo top that I could have if I wanted. The frame had busted up long ago, but she kept the cloth, because it was still good, and lets in dappled light, and it may come in handy... and it did! Then yesterday as I was shopping at Canadian Tire for a manual push mower, I saw a pretty "little" arbor on display. I went to go look at the price, and it was on sale! (not terribly cheap... but a lot cheaper than it was :faint:) And it was easy to assemble! I also got a sprinkler hose to put up, so that on a timer, it will water the orchids every day. Will test that later in the week.

But anyway! this is my summer set up. And what's nice, is that I can pull the shade down when I need to

edit: Oh.. it looks like it's leaning because my yard slopes. Gotta have the drainage!

Looks really.... girlish   Really, how do you plan for moisture while you're gone? Just curious. Is there a guy around that can do that for you

Yah... Yah... That's what happens when it's a girl doing the set up!

I have the sprinkler hose threaded throughout the frame (it's that black rope in the middle picture) that I will test out later this week. I'm going to hook it up to a timer to water a little bit ever day. I figure 2 weeks isn't a terribly long time to go away, and everything should be fine.

I think you should be fine if the system goes as planned. Really, I would have a guy come by and check it out for you while you're gone   :bowing

Only if it's a big strong handsome fellow, that sticks around till I get back ;)

You mean "if he's..."?

Dorothy 06-14-2008 07:20 PM

:scratchhead: "If he's ... ?"

Water-able? :dunno:

What What ?? Inquiring minds want to know ;)

What do you mean it's girlish :tapfoot:
If it does the trick ... then it's good enough!

I think it's a clever idea and it is nice looking. What more can you ask for? :dunno:

I think NOT!

But I have to say, Shams, it's the bows that did you in. I just don't think many men would have tied the bows.

Shams! I LOVE your setup. . .love all of it bows too.

I love you guys. Thanks Gwen and Grandma!

I tied bows because the cloth had those extension bits to put the aluminum frame for a gazebo in them, and I didn't like them just flapping about ;)
