Status reports updates

Just to do an update on several of the posts I made earlier -

Several things have changed with my ‘chids and some observations turned out to be inaccurate. Following are photos and updates.

Dendrobium moniliforme Hakuunrya

The terminal bud I thought was a flower turned out to be a Keiki. I decided today to remove it and plant it so it would become established as a new plant before my son does his watering the end of June. I don’t have much worry about desiccation since the plant is kept at 90%+ humidity in my Orchidarium. The pot in the picture is a 1” thumb pot.

Dendrobium moniliforme Matsushima

Flower buds come and go. The buds that were so robust have started to turn gray and dried looking. New buds are developing. New buds at base of most recent cane appear to be vegetative shoots. Other buds could be anything?

Aerangis luteo-alba var. rhodosticta (previous project plant)

This was not in spike when last update was posted, but is now. There are at least two spikes emerging – possibly three.

Aerangis citrata

This beauty has chosen to spike right on schedule (one year later) with at least two flower spikes.

Gastrochilus somai

Once again two flower spikes are on schedule.

Dyakia hendersonianium

This year is blessing us with one spike. Last year it was two flower spikes.

There are several other updates, but I will post them (and the photos) individually as the 'chids do their thing. As an appetizer, consider a couple Brassavolas, a couple Paphs, a Brassia or two, and who knows what else?

Nice Ross! I love the way you have "show & tell." That really brings it home for me. :)

Nice Ross! Your Aer. are doing so well! I love that Gastrochilus too. I may have to give one a try. Who knows it may grow for me. Other things have that shouldn't have.

Hmm. :hmm The Den. moniliforme Matsushima has me puzzled. I have a Den. from the formosae group that had a couple of buds that did that. It had 13 flowers on it though so I thought maybe it was just trying to do too much. I wonder if it is temperature related?

You have so much going on Ross! All the 'chids looks so happy and healthy. :) Your Aerangis luteo-alba var. rhodosticta looks amazing! It sure makes mine look pathetic and sickly thats for sure! :_( Congratulations on all your future blooms. Can't wait to see the pics!

Ross, does your Dyakia hendersonianium bloom only once a year?

I envy you with all your interesting varieties. I sure wish I had a unit where I could grow them. I just don't have the proper humidity.

Great Job Ross, I'm jealous that your project plant is blooming again:lol:

gmdiaz 06-10-2008 11:13 PM

Me too, but mine is improving cause I am trying to duplicate whatever Ross does. lololol

One of the many things I like about this board is how members share their personal projects with others, here. This is great!

Ross, great stuff!! I haven't gone and done my status for this month yet! :( I am amazed at your Aerangis rhodosticta!! It has really bulked up! My still looks rather wimpy in comparison! Great growing!

I just got two Den. monofoliums Hakuuryn and Hakuturu. Are both of your plants in your orchidarium? Or was that just the keiki?
