Orchid spike...
 
Hi everybody!

I need to some advice on my orchid spike, its a new one that just came out its about 2-3 inches, Im not sure what kind or Orchid it is, but its a kind you can buy at a grocery store... anyways i would like to know some methods to making the spike grow straight as possible, also is the anyway to make it grow as short as possible? It is on my window sill....

OK. Try going to "gallery" over at the left (everyone has one.) Then click "upload photos" upper right. When you go through the steps (give them a default title, click prcess, etc.) you should see the photos as thumbnails. Previous to this step I make all mine 640x480 just so they fit the format. Then once you see the photos, select the one you want to link to, then when it opens up, scroll down till you see a URL link bar. Click once on that, click <ctrl><C> for copy, then go to your thread and click <ctrl><V> for paste. You'll see a rather long text link that is the URL to your photo. Try it and see if this doesn't work.

You have a Phalaeonopsis orchid. Growing on a windowsill is tough. Your spike will always try to grow towards the light. Mine are in a window but also under grow lights. My spikes grow straight up towards the grow lights then start heading towards the window light. What you might try doing is rotating the plant 180 degrees. The spike should reverse course and keep growning towards the light. You may end up with a few weird kinks in the spike but at least it won't be growing sideways. :goodluck:

wha if i have a exo terra uv light bulb and another standard spiral bul in one fixture, could i place it underneath and get a straight spike?
