Planting epidendrums

Do epindedrums do well if planted directly on the ground? I have to replace some plants in my backyard (along the length of one wall) and I would like to plant some epindendrums there. Would they do well there? What type of soil/potting mix is recommended? Thanks in advance.

How about Arundina (a large plant with Cat-like blossoms?) For instance Bamboo Orchid http://www.orchidboard.com/community...bs/DSC1061.JPG photographed in Hawaii will surely grow in your area. It's Arundina graminifolia. IOSPE PHOTOS
