Hello from the Netherlands

Hi everyone, just doing a quick introduction. So nice to finally join you as a member!

I live in NL, and love growing orchids. Mostly I have phals, oncidium, bulbo’s, and one dendrobium nobile. My preference at this time is on bulbo’s, especially the daisy-looking ones! I am absolutely in LOVE with my first two purchases of this genus. The Mastersianum and Lepidum I purchased last month where my very first species plants, and a phal. Deliciosa, and bulbo. Bolsteri soon followed. I am a bit nervous of the increase in difficulty from hybrids to species especially as winter is coming up, but am also grateful to be able to elevate my hobby to the next step!

I also grow carnivorous plants (in particular Nepenthes and Utricullaria), Stapelia (carrion flowers), and have recently purchased two Platycerium (staghornferns)

My collection is humble and small, due to living in an small appartement space is limited, and due to my chronic illness that has me bed/homebound the budget isn’t very big. I am hoping to find some plants eventually that grow quickly and are easy to divide so I can start trading plants and grow my collection that way. This is one of the few hobbies I can still have and it brings me much joy! :)

Thank you so much for creating this space together, this will be the first time I get to talk about orchids with other people and learn from experienced growers!

Hello!
Carnivorous plants are just great. I have a Nepenthes to control flies and ants, a Cape Sundew for fruit flies, an unknown Butterwort for fungus gnats and some unknown tiny fly-catcher that was in the pot with the original Sundew. I can see how people get hooked on the Nepenthes, though, as they are really cool.

Thanks everyone!

@leafmite, oh for sure! They come in all shapes and sized, colors, and patterns. Really scratches that collectors itch. Their needs are very similar to orchids so it is an easy little side-step to make too

You have a nice collection going already. The butterworts are very effective gnat control in my experience

Welcome!

If you're interested in expanding your savage garden, I have a bunch of Drosera seeds that are just collecting dust in a drawer.
