Bacterial pitting - lack of air movement a cause?
 

Hi everyone,

I've recently noticed some black pit-like spots on my aeranthes which is in a small 10 gallon tank...I have actually not set up a fan for the tank yet (I'm guilty - I know..it's been a month already)...and I've been noticing black pit like formations on the undersides of the leaves. Is this due to lack of air movement, or is it a more serious infestation? I am rigging up my fans this sunday regardless, but wanted to know if there is something else going on.

Uh Oh... It resembles what happened to one of my phals...
It might have been lack of air movement, but the black spots continue to increase, if yellow spots start to appear as well then it may all be downhill from there.
Im not too familiar but it killed my plant, it may have been a fungus or virus. I'd isolate it thought from any other healthy plants for fear it would spread on..

i've dealt with similar-looking spots on my Aerangis.
wipe with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol twice a day for a couple of days. the spots won't disappear but it should stop spreading.

I believe these are a result of bacterial-caused rot. Alcohol should do the trick (Vodka is a good candidate :evil: ) but in the end if you can get your hands on some Thiomyl, that's your best bet. It's systemic and great for mold as well.

Thanks everyone :) hehe no vodka (surprising eh university student...vodka-less..gasp) but I used some rubbing alcohol...will repeat daily and monitor closely.
