C. Betty Ford 'York' AM/AOS - Reliable Early Winter Flowers

Edit: I tried to edit the title of this thread to correct a labeling error. This plant is C. Betty Ford 'York', rather than Lc. Bryan Wheeler 'Grandson'. If a mod would be so kind as to change the name of the thread to match this post, it would be appreciated.

I'm more a species collector, but this deeply colored hybrid with slight splash on the petals has flowered every year like clockwork for many years. It is one of my favorites. Divided in early 2021, this year it has 24 bulbs with three flowering leads and six flowers. The flairs on the tips of the petals are hardly noticeable this year. They were much larger last year.

Thank you for your comments!

I could easily be wrong, but IIRC you were one of two people who marveled at how clean the pot was on this and my C. Betty Ford 'York' when I posted a photo of them 6-8 months ago. It turns out that the reason the terracotta pots looked so new is that they don't sweat. Not sure why.

If I'm remembering wrong consider this an 'oops'.

For comparison, here's a photo of my Betty Ford 'York' AM/AOS and Brian Wheeler 'Grandson' AM/AOS blooming at the same time in 2019. These are the only two large monopodial hybrid Cattelya I have in these large ceramic pots. They were repotted at the same time last year. Investigating...

Looking at the links provided and the names on my previous photos, there is no doubt that the labels got reversed. The yellow eyes and more intense flares are Brian Wheeler 'Grandson' AM/AOS with the darker flowers and more intense color matching Betty Ford 'York'. This also fits with my observation "The flairs on the tips of the petals are hardly noticeable this year. They were much larger last year". The reason - last year this plant was Betty Ford.

SouthPark, Bayard, DOM - Thanks!

-Keith
