Type of Pot to replant
Recently purchased Memoria Howard Gynn. What type of pot should it be in, ex, shallow, small etc.
Also the care. Thank you. |
How large is your plant now? Is it currently potted? If so, what type pot, how large is the pot, and what substrate (growing medium) are you using?
The 'Gynn' threw me for a slight loop, but I think your hybrid is actually Bulbophyllum Memoria Howard Gunn (B. amplebracteatum x B. veldkampii). I do not keep or grow this one, so I can't really help with suggestions based on actual experience. But, I'll just toss this out there... I like using plastic net pots and baskets for potting bulbos because they provide good air circulation and can help with providing a good wet/dry cycle. Many Bulbophyllum tend to be rambling plants, so I don't use pots or baskets that are deep (they are more shallow, and wider) with my growing conditions. Growing medium of choice (again, just my personal choice) is bark. As to growing conditions: it should do well with warmish/intermediate temperatures, lower light levels, and watered consistently/regularly. Good humidity levels, and good air circulation, would probably be a plus. |
Bulbo
Yes the name was a typo. It is in a large pot now, but think I should re-pot it into a smaller basket type pot. This is my first bulbo and want to get more.
Thank you for your help. Kris |
Appreciate the gracious reply.
Bulbophyllums are a lot of fun to work with. They can definitely give you the "get more" bug. I really enjoy growing the smaller-sized species. Most of their flowers are also small, but many of them have interesting patterns and colors. I've learned that once they get a 'toe-hold' (and are happy) they're almost bullet proof. Let us know how everything turns out for you, and post some pictures if you get a chance. |
