Dendrobium Nobile Virginale
Hi all !!!!!
I should repot this baby ....any suggestions? Medium, type of pot ... Any new idea. I am willing to try  https://i.imgur.com/ODSpYPb.jpg Thank you and happy summer!!!! |
Nobiles like to be pot bound...unless the medium is degraded I would keep it. If you choose to repot, I would keep the same pot (or, if bigger, just the next larger size) and use a mix of medium sized bark (approx. bark chunks of 2 cm) and LECA together with some perlite. That's the mixed I've used with good results (as you can see by the photo below).

I would wait to repot until it's making new growth.

Ok got it. Thks Es & Rb, beautiful plant indeed.
It is actually growing, now is double the side from when I got it ..but the mini plastic pot is so uncomfortable, it keep dropping here and there. The idea of reporting was just to have it establishes in a long term pot and medium. |
Nobiles are well known by being top heavy. That's a common problem. Use a clay pot (although it won't solve the problem long term) or put large rocks around the pot.

BTW, I have a few more questions about nobile now that I have your attention. I have a few adult dend nobile I bought last year, 2 of them flowered this spring, but I couldn't control the others to blossom just now in summer and the flowers don't last long enough and the cane looks like they are drying faster than normal.
Any suggestions? Thanks |

Hi,
I am bumping up this thread since I don't know if I just should let these Nobiles alone or re-pot them. Also, the exposure of full sun scare me to dead. (Following the article recommendation that ES linked here: thank you so much btw) Dends are not my thing actually, I have them as complements but I don't pay much attention :( I have 3 adult Nobile 3rd yrs this year with me; 2 new canes each one: lovely healthy. I have touch the old canes. (I am posting a few picture to see if you see what I am explaining) My temps right now are between 14-18°> the sun is shaded like 30% as per the Cats, some light ray my pass through but not for long and there is quite amount of breeze, so air circulation is optimal. The "no that much N" Nitro mentioned also in the article; I never paid attention until just re-read the article. So, what kind of fertilizer is the correct one? https://i.imgur.com/UecJXz5.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SmMM8ip.jpg https://i.imgur.com/acyvxu1.jpg ****** Dendrobium (no nobile) : I have also a few Dends growing like nuts. All same questions for these as well. https://i.imgur.com/kcnGstD.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Nq7XFLd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/mMKJsUf.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7Wb1k7a.jpg |
I don't have experience with Phal den types so I can't help you
But there's one thing that caught my attention: you've cut the pbulbs of you nobiles. Don't do it until they are really dry as the bloom mostly from old leafless canes. I had some 3 year old pbulbs blooming. |
