Dendrobium forbesii

This came to me bare-root from Ecuagenera. I ordered it the last weekend in November 2020, and it was delivered January 30, 2021. I immediately repotted into semi-hydroponics.

I put it outside on my patio, in bright shade/dappled sun. We had a warm winter. I only brought it inside for one night when it threatened to get cold. I left it out a little too long as the weather warmed up. The leaves have some heat damage.

It began making new growths about 2 weeks ago. I didn't realize it would have such large, puffy bracts on the growths. I think it looks really neat. There are 3 new growths total.

They look really good. They do have a puffed up look about them.
Another one of your plants to follow.

very nice- i am often shocked at how some species have grows that are exactly like the mature plant and others that look and develop so differently

Maybe it's the camera angle, but it looks like it is ready to outgrow the pot... but then, optimum time to repot if that's the case. Or next year... Dens pretty much like to be potbound and don't spread out all that much at the base. Looking great!

It's the camera angle. It's in a 1 quart/liter plastic food container drilled for S/H. Latourias have short rhizomes between growths, so it should be good for a few years.

ES. I am receiving this one from Ecuagenera today. Any learnings to share from the past two years?

In growth it uses even more water than other Dendrobiums. Water and fertilize a lot, and stand back.

Looks like it's grown very well from being a bare root last year.
I watered today and noticed just everything is putting on new growth (we had some warm weather earlier in January which probably accounts for it). One orchid in the shower (crammed in..because we have too many orchids..right?) made a leap to escape and took his neighbor with him. The first orchid, the dendrobium 'Green Lantern' was uninjured. The neighbor Dend 'Purple Haze' lost a lot of bark that had to be picked up from teh tub and repacked.
