I need advice on choosing an orchid for cloche
 

I really need the advice of an experienced orchidologist. Can you suggest an orchid that can be kept in such a cloche. In very bright light, stagnant air with high humidity.

hmm, im making a cloche and i have modeled mine after your initial cutherbert setup.

i am growing it in low light for two reasons, one is the bright light is hotter here and makes the evaporation too extreme, the humidity is 100 and the cloche is always dripping. two is the area i can keep it is next to my bed and i dont want it terribly bright there

the lepanthenes, masdevillas and pleurothalids are all the genus where i have been looking and i have and Acianthera prolifera, a speklina gobyii and mas zahlbruk in there now

It was too wet and hot for cuthbertsonii in the light, they didn't like it. I don't want to plant Pleuprotallis in a cloche. I want something else :)
Warczewiczella timbiensis is very interesting, but it is cold, and I need warm content :)

Maybe twig epiphyte such as Psygmorchis (Erycina) pusilla (Oncidium pusillum). It likes hot, humid and I have known of others who had some success growing it in a jar with no air circulation, for some time... don't know about long-term survival, but it has a reputation of being short-lived (but very beautiful while it is around)

Dendrophyllax likes hot, still, humid air. There have been hybrids made of Dendrophyllax species, sometimes called Polyrrhiza. The hybrids are a lot easier to grow than the species.

I have had a Dendrophyllax lindenii x sallei seedling since October 2020. I have kept it in a very large hurricane jar with a glass dish closing the top. There is a little more air exchange than your jar would probably have because the dish does not fit snugly on the opening of the hurricane lamp.

Before I bought it from Orchids by Hausermann I telephoned them and spoke to the grower. He said it is not at all suited for any kind of windowsill growing because of the humidity and temperature requirements. He said it is not be difficult in a humid greenhouse. He said growing in a humid terrarium or enclosed jar should also work well. It's no longer on their Web site. I don't know whether they ship internationally.

In the same jar I have Pleurothallis ruscifolia and P. sarracenia, which would also do well in your cloche.

I long time dream about Psygmorchis pusilla, but didn't have it. This is a reason to think about buying it :)
My P. sarracenia grew in another tank. And the Dendrophyllax sallei already has another apartment :)
I need some bigger plant, like medium dendrobium, cattleya, maxillaria etc.

Ah... here's one if you can get it... Microcoelia aphylla . A warm growing leafless orchid with a very interesting flower - small, but lots of them. (Mine was rather pathetic last year, this year putting on a better show)

Also, there are many Bulbophyllums (maybe an infinte number of them??) that like heat and humidity. Most of the Dendrobiums, Maxillarias, Cattleya tribe like to dry out a little bit, a challenge to find any that like it quite that humid and lacking in air movement.

roberta- this is a sore spot for me. i missed a chance at a 3ft clump of this on ebay and just missed the timer to place my bid!!!!!!
