DIVIDING MILTONIAN ORCHID

4 Attachment(s)
Hi Friends, :waving
I want to divide my Miltonian orchid It is in a 6.5 pot. I have sphagnum moss, perlite, bark to repot it. How many should I divide it into and what size pots. Stay safe everyone.

Myself I'd leave it one more year but you could probably split it into 2, I would not split it more than that, you might think you can but each division will be half as weak and at some point the division will be so weak it might even die completely.
As to what size pot, no idea, it will most likely be roughly the same sized pot for both divisions (so one more same sized pot) unless you really do divide it into 4 which I would not recommend but then you could use 4 pots that are roughly half the size.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I have trouble keeping enough moisture around it. Do you think putting some of the sphagnum moss around the top would be alright. I dont like to spray it because of it going rotten. It is in my house at the moment will go into the conservatory in April if weather is warm enough never know in the U.K

sry can't help with moss. Don't use the stuff.
Your leaves are folded a bit which does indicate low humidity but I don't feel qualified enough to advise how to rectify it.
Hope someone else can chime in.

Photos are too close to the plant to tell whether this is a Miltoniopsis, or an intergeneric. The pleated leaves do indicate insufficient watering.

1. I grow both in spaghnum (with 20% bark) in order to maintain high humidity around the roots.
2. There is no pressing need to divide. If you want to, you can.
2.1 Miltoniopsis: You can go down to 2 bulbs per division. I use as small a pot as possible, as these need to be repotted annually (they HATE stale mix).
2.2 Intergenerics: I try for 3 bulbs per division. It is OK to repot these every 2 years.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply it is Miltoniopsis waterfall. I do have problems hydrating it enough. I have bought some sphagnum moss to help. I did put a picture on my previous post. Sorry I was a bit late with my reply.
