Phalanopsis changed its blooms from purple spots to pink stripes

Hello all ... pictures attached

I searched for many months for a phalanopsis that had a specific bloom of white petals with purple spots. I finally found it. It was my most unusual orchid as it was the only one that had mutiple branches on its 2 spikes and all the branches gave me the beautiful spotted blooms.

Fast forward 12 months. I left the spikes hoping one of them would give me secondary spikes however it gave me a third new primary spike.

I was very excited. But as the blooms grew l noticed their buds didn't have the spotted markings of its earlier blooms last year. Then when they opened, they were totally different colour and pattern.

Instead of white with purple spots and splodges, they were white with pink inform stripes.

The blooms were completely a different type and colour and size

How is this possible. ⁉️⁉️⁉️

Although interesting, l am so disappointed not to get the blooms l actually bought the phal for

Has this happened to anyone else and is there an explanation for this.

Nb: l definately do not have this confused with any of my other orchid which was originally striped as this is my one and only 2 spiked orchid with multiple branches in its 2 spikes .. and l bought it direct from the store like that.

It changed blooms !!! But how...and why... will l evert get my beloved spotted blooms again??

I believe they are two different plants.

Yes, colors can change due to different color conditions, but that seems to be an unlikely, large change in the pattern. However, the real proof of it being a different plant is the form of the lip callus, as that does not change, no matter what.

The spotted flower seems to have a relatively smooth one, while the striped one has yellow, jagged “teeth”.

Hello Ray

Yes..l think you are correct...l just rembered that l cut all the old spikes off the spotted orchid....l have now located it going by the leaves... note to self... label all my orchid pots.

Please ignore my post... mystery solved

Now hoping the spotted orchid gives me blooms..
