Black on new Oncid Trigonldium egertonianum pbulbs

I have had this Oncid Trigonldium egertonianum for 3 weeks. The leaves are very healthy and green, and the pbulbs that are visible are somewhat shriveled, but green and appear healthy.

I unpotted it this morning and found lots of buried pbulbs totally black and shriveled, and what worries me most is that a few of the pbulbs ABOVE the medium had large black areas coming up from the base.

I did not see any purple or “advancing yellow margin”, and there was no foul smell. Some of the roots appear dead, but there are also lots that are strong, and do not slide away from the inner string when you tug on them. The plant was very wet when I received it via mail and it was cold, but no appearance of cold damage on the leaves.

Should I just toss this plant and forget about the $35 that I wasted on it, or try to treat it somehow?
As always, thanks so much for your guidance.

It does seem a bit worrying that it's also happening on newer bulbs. Might be worthwhile to separate the plant into a couple chunks without any black spots and put the ones with black spots apart from them. My mounted plants have bulbs from a few years ago still green. with roots growing all over them. These don't need a ton of water or humidity in my experience. They survive the dry season here (2-3 months with no rain) without any problems.

I would get in touch with vendor about the unsatisfactory condition of the plant. Bad enuf that it was sent in winter but being wet is unacceptable. Some vendors will hold a plant until temps to ship to you are ok. And no heatpack? Good luck.

Thanks for the guidance DC & SC. For now, I will pot the clean pbulbs and destroy the others. Also, I will TRY to get credit from the supplier (a well known grower in FL) for repurchase in the Spring.

Appreciate your thoughts on this!
