Phalaenopsis Yin's Black Eagle in bud
2 Attachment(s)
Hi:
I need some advise. This orchid has been in bud since June and it WILL NOT bloom. I am giving it orchid plus better bloom every other week. It just won't bloom. Any advice? Thanks |
The starry Phals with very light green leaves tend to be summer bloomers. They can produce new buds from older stems for many months to years. They prefer warmer temperatures, too.

What are your temperatures? This Phal is 2/3 violacea, and those like very warm and humid conditions.
|
Well, I keep the house between 68-70 F. At night the temp drops to around 63-65. The plant is next to a southern window bank so I think its a few degrees cooler. I could move it to a warmer spot but it wouldn't be under the grow lights

You have two posts with the same suggestion: too cold. Move the plants; buy a new light if needed or a heat mat.

I kept one of these at similar temperatures in my office and I didn’t have health issues with it. These bloom from the old spikes so it’ll often have a green spike present even when it’s not ready to bloom. As others have said, look for bud development off of that spike in the summer. I was getting one or two flowers a season from mine, but I brought it home last fall where conditions are warmer so I’m hoping it’ll be more floriferous in the future.
