Butterfly world should be called orchid world. Wow!!!
I had the fun of going to Butterfly World with my family last week and I was blown away and delighted. The place is in a local park and about 30 years old and they have many orchids that have been there since they opened. Holy bleeping duck sauce!!! I am going back, a lot, I need to see some of these plants bloom.
I am uploading the shots now but will add a bunch of pic tomorrow. There was one orchid that really had me confused bc it looked like a MASSIVE cym fully epiphyte in full sun. If anyone is in the Broward County area. Make this a place you visit. They also have a cool garden center where they sell a lot of their butterfly plants. I got a wisteria seedling and a nice passiflora vine but could have gone crazy as they have some really sweet plants |
Great!
The blue flower on a spike is Stachytarpheta, porterweed. It is widespread in the American tropics. It is being hybridized for more colors. |
here are two more pics of the plant i could not ID

Maybe Cymbidium finlaysonianum? The lip doesn't entirely match, though.
|
Don't recognize the Cym... suspect that it is a hybrid, in the group that includes finlaysonianum, aloifolium (simulans), bicolor, maybe some suave in the mix. Those hard-leaved tropical Cyms can get IMMENSE ... like that one. The relatively large flowers with lip broader than the species that I mentioned makes me strongly suspect hybrid.
And great butterfly pix! |
Thanks y’all!
I was sure to switch our day passes to an annual as we left. I want to see those flowers! I mean, butterflies!! |
went back a few more times and this place does not disappoint
