Cattleya flower terminology

From this thread ----- Click Here ....... would anybody happen to know what the slender 'waist-like' region is called that is seen in some cattleya flowers, such as the region marked in red?
http://www.orchidboard.com/community...1&d=1595248247 The image is of a C. Clinton flower. |
Also interesting that there appears to be no other C. Clinton flower seen online, except on OrchidBoard - as far as I know so far, which is nice.

You could call that the isthmus of the lip.

ES ----- that particular word describes it excellently. Thanks very much ES.

Isn’t that the mesochile
As in Hypochile - the bit where the labellum meets the calyx Mesochile - the next bit Epichile - the outermost part of the labellum, which is usually the largest and widest Source Wikipedia |
Thanks Arron! It could be too. I can see images on the internet with pics of stanhopea flowers with the term mesochile marked on it.
Link 1 Link 2 Not sure why they did it for stanhopea only, and not for a catt. But ----- both these terms isthmus and mesochile are definitely going to help, and allows us to at least convey what we want to convey! Thanks very much Arron and ES. |

Beth Eden) It was something we offered a very long time ago, and more recently sold the divisions remaining in our collection. Happy Growing, Bridget Uzar |
