Hey guys Ive got this cattleya Royal Emperor wich just bloomed 2 days ago but it has no fragrance, maby a tiny bit floral but barely, do you guys know why

ps. will the bloom last longer outside where it normaly is located, windy Miami Beach, or will it last longer in relatively humid inside next to window with lots of fresh air and daily misting.

do you guy know how long bloom will last with very healthy cattleya

Sometimes it takes a couple days for the fragrance to ramp up, and different plants will be fragrant at different times of the day.

Usually a few weeks in general. But can be 4 weeks, or even a lot more - depending on what catt it is.

That's a plus for orchids in general - quite long lasting flowers.

I have never allowed my orchid flowers to become wet before - this includes no misting. This is not what happens in the wild though haha.

My reason for myself avoiding the wetting of the flower is along the lines of cutting down on chances of marking or flower degradation due to water related effects.

I see! Thanks! Misting the roots should be ok.

A general note about flower longevity I’ve seen is that the flowers last longest when the plant is kept where it is used to growing. Any big changes in growing conditions while a plant is in bloom tend to result in a shorter lifespan for the flowers.

Some Cattleyas require sun light to release their fragrance.
