Hello from Southern California
Hi All,
I am a fairly recent orchid enthusiast. I got my first phalaenopsisa few years ago, and I am slowly getting more varieties. I currently have a few NOID phalaenopsis, 3 small cattleyas, an Encyclia alata, a Brassavola nodosa and a Maxillaria tenuifolia. I look forward to interesting conversations. Stéphane |

Lovely, both of them. Welcome! Hope you are not being affected by the smoke!

Welcome! Stéphane, coastal southern California is a fantastic place to grow orchids outside - it's just a matter of choosing the ones that will handle cool winter nights - which turns out to be A LOT of different orchids. And we also live in an area with lots of shows and some great nurseries in easy driving distance. So you have a great adventure ahead of you!

Thank you all for the warm welcome!
@fishmom: I'm lucky and I'm far from any of the fires. @Roberta: Unfortunately I do no (yet) have any outdoor space. I'm looking forward to have some one day so I can try to grow Vandas... I currently only have southwest facing windows where I grow my sun loving orchids. They provide enough light to get the Encyclia and the Brassavola to bloom; I hope it will be the same for the Cattleyas and Maxillaria I recently got. |
