Reminder of forum rules

In view of the recent events on the forum I thought it would be a good time to remind everyone of the forum rules, that can be found in this thread:

Forum Guidlines (and a few forum rules/terms of use that you need to know)

I especially want to point out this paragraph:

Quote:

  • Abuse & Bad Language
By abuse we mean any comments used to embarrass, threaten, cause distress, harass or cause discomfort to another user. Anything offensive or using obscene language, defamatory comments, abusive or hateful comments, flaming, racially or sexually discriminating or any other sort of discrimination, pornographic, sexual or suggestive comments.
Sometimes your comments may be read as abusive when you didn't mean them to be. We understand that and may warn you but not take any other action, however repeated offences will lead to additional action being taken.
Anything in your user profile which is considered abusive will be removed.

From the beginning, one thing that Orchidboard took pride in was the friendly atmosphere and zero tolerance for nastiness towards other members. This is still what Orchidboard stands for, so I would like to apoligize to everyone who had to suffer through or read the verbal abuse and bad language we've had recently. The person in question has now been banned twice, and will continue to be banned each time he tries to come back with a new account.

What should you do if you come across posts/threads that break forum rules?
Whether a post is outright offensive, openly contains spam, or you are not sure if something needs to be done about it, please don't hesitate to report the post (little warning triangle icon at top right of every post) or PM me or one of our future new moderators (will be announced when it it all arranged and official).

Forum rules and sentiments are absolutely correct, but browsing the sheets regularly I must have missed the items you refer to. There was someone a while ago who was disgruntled because they (you assumed "he") had been banned, and if so for no good reason, but I thought the connected threads brought out some interesting points. The closing entry indicated the member is now back on line so maybe not that member. I assume you must have removed the offending thread before my subsequent browse. The remaining interesting point for me is that with the anonimity of the new member sign up process how the Moderators of the forum could identify the miscrient attempting to re-join.
Keep up the good work - much interesting information gets posted.

I can see IP addresses, and see all usernames associated to a specific address. Unfortunately I can only identify people attempting to come back if they use the same IP (and not, say, a VPN).

Richardb..... fortunately, it appears that the number of people that draw unwanted attention on this particular forum is quite low. It's generally very nice here on orchidboard.

I think that it's also rare to have people forcing the issue of signing up again and again to purposely pick up from where they had left off.
