Repotting Phals in Spike

Hello everyone.

I received four new fragrant phals (bellina) and they are potted in what appears to be 100% old sphagnum moss with a lot of algae. They are all in spike. I want to experience these in bloom but it is hard to look at them and not repot them. What would you all do?

Thanks!

If the moss is loose enough to delicately pry out of the root systems after soaking, you might try replacing it. However, if your preferred medium is different, that shock could affect the blooming.

In that case, I'd "nurse" them through blooming by only moistening the current moss lightly. I've gone so far as adding a teaspoon of water a day...
