Oncidium Twinkle 'Fragrant Fantasy' with ginger

1 Attachment(s)
After purchasing from ebay more than 6 months ago, my small Oncidium Twinkle 'Fragrant Fantasy' has finally flowered.

When I first purchased it, it had no flower spike, and then it just developed a spike very soon after it arrived.

This plant has been growing nicely in scoria rock -- local variety is called quincan gravel (pronounced kwing-kun gravel). Scoria seems to work quite well here in North Queensland. This plant was originally growing in some kind of bark/perlite mix when it first arrived in the mail. I usually repot all plants that come in by mail.

At first, the early flowers didn't have much scent. But now, it has quite a nice subtle vanilla smell. I wasn't expecting a nice smell - but no problem at all on the nose!

The tag says 'Fragrance Fantasy', but I currently believe the correct name is supposed to be 'FragranT Fantasy'.

The cultivar is 'Fragrance Fantasy', and has been awarded as that at shows in New Zealand and Brazil.

:high5:Seems it has another admirer as well. Both are lovely.

I like that yours has such a pronounced yellow center. Mine overall has a more pink/blush color, but I love the smell. Sort of reminds me of the creme in the middle of oreos

3M --- I was just taking a look at some online photos, and sure enough there were photos of pinkish petal ones! They look nice! Nice change-up. hahaha..... I like that oreos imagery!

Thanks for mentioning that Ray! After doing some more checks, I now notice different names between these two websites here :

http://orchidsaustralia.com.au/index...e&type=1&Pag=0

Oncidium Twinkle 'Fragrance Fantasy' (Awards) | ORCHIDS.ORG

At the AOS website, there is a section that says 'Latest Awards', but I don't see a section that says 'All Awards'. I have to find out from AOS to see if they have an 'All Awards' section --- awards database.

I believe that you're right about the name. I'm just surprised about the discrepancy in the naming between those two websites. The orchids.org site has the earliest awards, and it says 'Fragrance Fantasy'. This is under an assumption that both sites are referring to the same cultivar. Sometime in the future, I think I'll send an email to the Australian site to see what is going on here. Thanks again Ray!

There are no AOS awards for the plant, so they will probably have no such record.

I got it from Orchid Wiz.

That's a very nice Oncidium, and Ginger the cat is beautiful, too!

Thanks very much! We ended up calling her GingerCat, as she doesn't have a name. She was wandering our streets a bit more than a year ago - very thin and a pile of bones at the time --- and she would 'almost' allow me to go near her --- but would last moment move away. That was until one day - for some reason --- gave the secret codeword --- food. A piece of fish from the local fish and chips shop. She then took up residence here ever since hehehe. Her behaviour is very good. Amazingly friendly and social. She likes to follow people around everywhere. Below is a photo taken earlier this year with less fur --- since she develops the thick fur during winter time. Much less fur during the summer time.

Yes, I can definitely see the difference between her summer and winter coats. It was good of you to take her in and give her a nice home. She looks very happy and healthy now -- and so do your orchids! :)
