Hello phal fans, I have a mini phal that my daughter gave me last season after the blooms were gone. I repotted it for the rest of the season I thrived a new leaf was emerging. Go thru winter with cooler indoor temps. Now that all my plants not just my orchids think it’s spring. It is now down to one leaf. What the heck went wrong. When I water I’m very careful not to let any water to get down in the crown but to me I looks like crown rot. Can I save this mini phal? Thank you I appreciate any feedback one more question please. I have 2 other phals that I’ve never had rebloom. Is there a fertilizer I can use on them to promote blooms?

There's still hope, but it's going to need a fair amount of luck and a long time to recover. It's definitely crown rot. Do you have good air flow around the plant? Does it grow some place with cool temperatures for an extended period?

I suggest buying a new orchid... there's some brown around the base of the last leaf and I suspect that you'll be losing that one too. The medium also doesn't look good... if you took it out of the pot you would probably find a fairly mushy mess in the root zone. Fertilizer won't make an orchid bloom.

I second Roberta, it looks like the last leaf will drop soon. The mini Phal I lost to crown rot did the same thing. I didn’t throw in the towel on mine until all the leaves had dropped and the roots died. The only thing I could think of was that I may have splashed some water in the crown but really had no indication of trouble until it pretty much fell apart.

You can try unpotting yours and see if there is any healthy stem tissue and a healthy root system below the lower leaf. If there is, you can try applying some peroxide to the rotted top, dry, and apply some cinnamon. Then, repot in suitable substrate and cross your fingers.

For reblooming, are these healthy plants with good root systems? Have you repotted them since purchase (most need it)?

For healthy Phals, good light and exposure to lower temperatures should trigger blooming. You want them to be in a location that gets bright indirect light most of the day and experiences an average temperature drop of at least 10 degrees for two weeks. My Phals get this on my windowsills. Being next to the glass gets things cool enough in winter to trigger blooming.

Thank you for y’alls feedback. Yeah on the mini phal looks like last leaf about to go. I will try what you described. My other 2 phals one is good but the other large phal. Long story I have that orchid now for several years never has bloomed for me. My husband rescued it from a real trash dumpster dying in the oppressive so ore heat. I know that they do loose leaves it’s about to lose 2 huge leaves on the bottom. The leaves have been on the orchid since I’ve had it. There is a small amount of new growth on the plant. I don’t care if it blooms or not. I do have flower spikes on my 2 zygos I couldn’t be more proud. Thank you for everyone’s feedback I appreciate y’all.
