Dracula erythrochaete
The Dracula are taking off this year with a ton of new growth. I adjusted their location to allow 900-1050fc. It's paying off.
D. erythrochaete is presently sending out spikes. Bud before opening. The fountain fog made it difficult to get a clear shot. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ps0ff8cafd.jpg Open flower http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j2...psaa04f571.jpg |
Beautiful!!! You made me jealous for a moment. Hehe
I wish I knew how to grow Draculas. But the south might be too warm still. Indoor culture might be a possibility.... just maybe... |
Fabulous!

You might try to grow in a terrarium type situation, but it is very important that you have drops in the night-time temps. My temps go from 80 in the day down to 50-60 at night. Also provide fans for air movement to keep mold, fungus and mildew at bay. I run a large swamp cooler on a thermostat all day. I have a smaller cooler on a timer for the days when the outside temps are expected to be 90 and above. I also have a fogger and misting system. |
Gorgeous! Just gorgeous!

I live in Scotland and I'm thinking this might be a good one for me. I live right next to the sea, so humidity and coolness are right there. What kind of medium are you in ? It looks like spag moss in the pic but it's hard to tell...

I love this. For some reason, it reminds me of French toast.

Stunning, I love Draculas, so said I can only admire them here on the pics :-) This one is real monkey! :-)

Just keep them wet and cool. Hope this helps! |
I have a couple Dracula on hygrolon/aquamat who seem to be ok. I'm betting they could be grown on Epiweb as well in humid growchambers with frequent spraying.
I've had luck with D. mopsus and cordobae in warmer conditions(low 80's for highs with night drop into 70's). I moved recently to an area that gets cooler and my first cordobae bloom is opening-but I'm fairly certain the same would have occurred in the warmer conditions. |
