Trichosalpinx rotundata

Trichosalpinx rotundata - cute miniature orchid, requires shady location and constant moist with high humidity. Blooming on the bottom of the round shaped leaves.

I would love to have one………..

What an interesting mini species. Very cool, Tommy.

Awesome!

Many thanks, I love this one's growing habit, it is like the plant is PROTECTING the blooms from being seen by strangers, so cute:-)

Flowering from the underside of the leaf; makes one wonder, about what kind of pollinator this plant would attract?

*snort!* Can you imagine what an appropriately sized bat or hummingbird would look like?

Fantastic! Beautiful flowers and I like the look of the plant even if it wasn't in bloom.

TOMMYMIAMI 03-06-2014 04:09 PM

Thanks nikkik, agree, interesting plant in general, even without the blooms;-)

TimetoFindMe 03-06-2014 04:45 PM

I also have this plant and I find that the flowers emit a somewhat mushroom like scent but only when the flowers are fully open.

It wouldn't surprise me if the leaves act as an umbrella of sorts that provides shelter for mycohphilic flying insects. Some Dracula sort of do this with their downward facing blooms and water shedding floral structure.

How cute!
