This is a nobile hybrid but warmth tolerant so it does not require as much cooling to set flower buds....this is late blooming for this cycle it should have flowered late spring …fragrant early evening like the smell of hyacynth and berries....compact and easy to grow….this likes to be outside during the warm summer months and blooms when there is longer daylight time; it also helps that the nights are cooler this summer ….I leave them outdoor until fall and bring inside a week before the first frost. They thrive well under moderate temperatures....it likes to be root-bound and do well in relatively small pot. Too much fertilizer and too much warm nights will produce keikis and no blooms.

Thanks....it's late bloomer but I am glad it did

NYCorchidman 09-02-2012 05:07 PM

It looks very similar to my favorite nobile hybrid, Love Memory 'Fizz'

Bud 09-08-2012 07:22 PM

Yep....when I saw that on your post, it made me interested in nobile Dens

NYCorchidman 09-09-2012 11:18 PM

nobile are great, I love them! easy and great grower, great color and nice scent!
I just wish they didn't have that cooling requirement. My friend sold his apartment and now I have no where to put my nobiles for cooling treatment in the winter. hmmmm quite lost.

Bud 09-10-2012 12:18 AM

it depends if you have too much fertilizer and too much warmth...then keikis will appear and no blooms....but this is warmth tolerant....I understand your plight....you are lucky to have friends to house your plants

RosieC 09-10-2012 06:42 AM

Really lovely, I love the dark centers on these.

Bud 09-10-2012 03:22 PM

In paper it is hard to grow this...but in reality: as I group the culture with the other Dendrobiums= it is quite easy especially that it requires very little fuss

not so lucky anymore since he sold his apartment and the new one he's moving into has no balcony. oh, well...

the nobiles I have need cooling period to flower well. I read some people report that theirs flowered but the flowering wasn't as good. With once a year blooming, I need a spectacular bloom as these guys normally do given the cool period.

I got rid of all my nobiles except for one after my friend sold his apartment. With one nobile, I'm going to either leave it outside every night until first frost and see what happens. Many people say bringing indoor after leaving it out cause major bud blast due to temperature being too high. will see.
If all fail, then I will just buy them every spring and discard. lol

Bud 09-10-2012 06:19 PM

OH NO! youre not saying that....it hurts to throw away healthy plants just cause you cant care for them...you better find homes for them then....

NYCorchidman 09-10-2012 11:15 PM

I had to do it to make room for other stuff that will bloom without chilling.

I heard Isler (not sure about the spelling) hybrids do not require chilling to bloom. I wonder if it's true.
Even then, I've only seen two different color types and I wasn't too into either of them. oh, well...

Dendrobium (FancyAngel ‘Lycee’ X ToMyKids) = rebloom 02/01/2013

I had this outdoors during the warmer months and brought it indoors a week just before the frost came….I only gave it 3 weeks chill weather to cool off and lesser water ….the grower I got this from said it is warmth tolerant but I didn’t let it out in the Manhattan heat wave….This is an early bloom since I was expecting these to flower this spring, I am also glad to see keikis together with the flowers.
