Time to update the label on your plant to C. Lulu 'Hot Pink' AM/AOS.

'Hot Pink's' first award was an HCC (78 points) for 11 - 8.4 cm ns flowers on 1 inflorescence; the AM (81 points)is for 22 9 cm ns flowers on 2 inflorescences.

These are beautiful flowers for your first-time bloomer! And great potential for more flowers next time around.

I love the vivid spots on C. Lulu 'Hot Pink.' In another month or so, time will tell if the clarity of color and markings will come through on my Bc. Little Lulu (C. Lulu x B. Little Stars). Will keep you all posted.

ITM, Jane, keep on growing and thanks for sharing your wonderful collection!

Wow Jane!! You've done it again!! Congrats on this beauty!!

puddin 09-21-2007 02:37 PM

That's lovely! No, amazingly beautiful is more like it!

quiltergal 09-21-2007 02:42 PM

Jane, this looks a little like the C. Summer Spot 'Carmela' that I just brought back from Hawaii. Summer Spot is more of a rosey pink with maroon spotting. At any rate, it's loverly!!

Dorothy 09-21-2007 02:59 PM

I have a Summer Spot - but it has not bloomed for me yet - I am hoping this fall or perhaps the spring

Fabulous blossom!

Wow yours has more pink than mine does, probably why it has the 'hot pink" name. They are terrific plants to grow and make a beautiful display.

Mine actually has a touch of purple in it which is odd I think.

Thanks for sharing, it's a beautiful plant you have there.

cneos 09-22-2007 09:15 AM

the other two awarded C. Lulu are:
'Fireworks' - a light pink with burgundy red spots; and 'Grapeade' - light pink, heavily spotted red-violet, spotting coalescing a edges.

Bolero 09-22-2007 08:07 PM

Mine hasn't been awarded, it's was a seedling so probably a bit different to the others as it's not a clone.

cneos 09-22-2007 09:17 PM

will you post a photo of yours? it will be interesting to see its colour

My mistake, mine is Lulu Full x Lavender Ice. I thought it was Lulu Full only. Next time I should check before I speak.........;-)

Here it is anyway.......it has a mauve look to it but I had a lot of trouble capturing the photo and getting the real colouring.

Dorothy 09-23-2007 07:32 AM

Bolero - you have yourself a beauty there
Love the lavender!

Bolero 09-23-2007 07:43 AM

Yeah sorry about my mistake though, I thought I had the same plant but my memory didn't serve me well.

Well it's not completely dissimilar.

Thanks for the compliment Dorothy!

Yours is a very pretty flowering!

I could not find a parent named C. Lulu Full. Perhaps 'full' is simply a hybridizer's descriptive note for the flower? Most likely, your plant is C. Lulu x Lavender Ice which is C. Lavender Lulu, registered by H&R in 11/23/06.

Roy Tokunaga treated visitors to the AOS Judging Center and his nursery to a look at his new releases of offspring of B. nodosa, including a few combinations of C. Lulu. One of these (light pink mini-catt in both photos) is Bc. Little Lulu, (B. Little Stars x C. Lulu). Color of this grex is variable.

How many flowers can those big plants flower? It would be really cool to grow the plants and that is the reward. None of my plants are that big though. Can't wait until they are!

Although the hybrid was registered by Stewart Orchids, Roy used divisions of his B. nodosa 'Mas Mejor' AM, CCM, and CCE and B. subulifolia to make his own version of B. Little Stars. The huge plant in the middle of both photos is B. Little Stars 'Henbest's Passion' which earned H&R Orchids a CCM (85 points) in 2004 for 363 flowers, 20 buds, 60 inflorescences. At its 2006 judging, Roy apologized that 'Henbest's Passion' wasn't quite up to par - timing of the blooms is everything. But as you can see in the photo attached here, B. Little Stars can light up the night, even on relatively small plants.

Roy is especially excited about his new cross - Bc. Little Lulu (B. Little Stars x C. Lulu). Floriferousness and heavenly fragrance makes this hybrid a must have for my collection.
