2 Neos spiking
2 Attachment(s)
I've managed to acquire quite a nice collection of Neos the past few years. I have two plants showing spikes now. The first pic is Neofinetia falcata 'Asahiden' I really can't take credit for, as I just got it a few weeks ago with a small spike on it. The second pic is my Neofinetia falcata 'Suikaden' I have had this plant about a year now. I can't wait to see what the bloom looks like on this one.

nice happy neos :).. I want more neos but wouldnt ya know it, Im not happy with the run of the mill stuff anymore.
If the plant doesnt extract an ounce of flesh from me, its not brazen enough to grow for me either. :) |

Wow! It didn't take long for the Neo 'Asahiden' to open its blooms, and I didn't even have to wait for the scent. It is there from the beginning :)
|
woo hoo! they're beautiful! I just wish we could experience the fragrance thru the internet!
|
Both plants are beautiful. May I ask, please, where you obtained that fine looking sphagnum?
|
Beautiful Neo Norris!
Jerry, Calwest Tropical has the best price on sphagnum moss...but they are out of the 5A (AAAAA) moss, but even their 3A moss price beats orchidweb.com's price! Here is their link: http://www.calwesttropical.com/index.../sphagnum-moss |

Thanks Becca. I will check them out. I have some that is fair but not the quality I would like.
|
I am a lucky guy, Cal West Tropicals is a 30 minute drive from where I am, I have visited them a few times. I've got some great deals on Sphagnum moss, coco husk chips, and wood baskets, among other supplies.
Today my Suikaden opened its first bloom, I will wait until a few more blooms open and get a pic up here. |

Here are a couple pics of the 'Suikaden'

We live in an area that has a huge variety of mosses, but I haven't found shagnum. They don't even sell it anywhere. I'm going to either have to try other mosses for growing, or change what I grow in. It is too expensive to have it shipped. It seems silly to be surrounded by moss and have to have it shipped to you!

I think I won't be able to resist anymore. I want a neofinetia ;)
I grow Phals (with very few exceptions) because my conditions suits them (windowsill, temperate-warm). Do you think neofinetia would be able to adapt to such conditions? My RH is 50%-60%. |

I kept my Neos. outside this past winter, but the temp seldom gets below 40 degrees F. (4.5 C.) here. They survived ok, but now that it's summer I'm a bit concerned that they will get too warm out there. I will just have to give them more shade on the hot days that we get here. I'm lucky if we get humidity above 50% so its a good thing they are in moss. |
Very nice growing indeed.
|
I love the Neo's. Mine grow wonderfully and always puts out spikes, but sadly they almost always blast. Don't know what I doing wrong.

I cross pollinated these two plants and got one pod on each plant, and thought some of you would like to see the developing pods.
|
I love Neos! Once you have it bloom...it will keep on blooming for you and producing fans...
|
I love my Neos too! I have had the Suikuden for a little over a year, and I'm amazed at its growth. I got it with 2 large growths and 2 babies. Now it has 4 large growths and at least that many babies.
