Trip to Veracruz, Mexico
I got back from My grandmas house just a few days agoa dn had a great time. I was amazed at how many orchids they have there! They come from all over the world as my grandpa collected them. Renantheras, Vandas, Cattleyas, Laelias, Epidendrums, Phalaenopsis, Paphiopedilums, Stanhopeas, Gongoras, Lycastes, Maxillarias, Oncidiums, Miltonias, Catasetums, amd many many others that i cant name for shure. It was fantastic. And not only there at my grandmothers house, they sell stanhopeas a nd ancietas in the local flower market. Theres Oncidium sphacelatums growing everyhwre from the trees of the park to the ground! Theres a huge renanthera growing around a concrete pllar. It got accustummed to the weather there in Fortin de las flores. And i saw my first stanhopea flowering. It was amazing. AND THE scent was wonderfull. Its seriously like a orchid lovers paradise. Just go to El corazon and youll see wild orchids growing next to bromeliads. I saw a tree side with about a 100 or more Laelia seedlings. It trully is a beautifull place.
But theres a dowside to this story. Unfortunatly theres really isnt any body to take care of all the orchids in my gRandmothers house, so alot of them get fallen over by the wind and just lie there until they die. I saved Vanda and Renanthera SPECIES that where liing on the ground! I would be happy the collection since they some get robbed every once in a while Bu unfortunatly i cant. Anyways, here are the pictures that i took. If you would like more, just ask! http://www.orchidboard.com/community...hocephalus.jpg Tiny orchid growing below a coffe tree from the Genus Ornithocephalus http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ture2504-a.jpg NOID but stll very nice. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...3-miltonia.jpgFantastic large fragrant miltonia. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...maxillaria.jpg Nice small yellow maxillaria. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...pollinator.jpg Catasetum being visited by its pollinator, A Bumble bee. Well here is another picture but this one was taken a loooooooooooooooong time ago. Before I was even born I think. Anyways, it was here(where the picture is) where they placed all the flowering orchids to display them. This is right infront of my grandmothers house. If you look closely you can see My grandfather working in his office in the background.

Beautiful photo's! Looks like you had a fantastic time visiting your grandparents. Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a place where orchids grow all over the place like that :)
I especially love the photo of the Epidendrum nocturnum, what a beautiful flower! By the way, looks like loving orchids runs in your family, do I'm not surprised you love them at 13 ;) my grandmother also grew them, and so did my mom and dad so I always had my parents 'hiding' in the greenhouse :p It's great having such a hobby at an early age, so enjoy! :) |
Loved the pics. Thanks for sharing.

I will hopefully be able to post pictures of my Trip to Chiapas which is in the south of Mexico. There where soooooooooooooooooooooo many orchids there! Unfortunatly, I didnt take my camera there so I had to use my Cousins but he still hasnt sent me the pictures yet! They will be much better pictures and I took some of miniature-and I mean 2 cm-flowering orchids which I have no idea what they were. Maybe some of the expers will be able to help identify. But that will only be until I get the pictures.
Thank you all for youre replies! I hope you have enjoyed the pictures. |
beautiful pics! thanks for sharing :)

Actually many of us hope that younger people will join orchid groups while young so they can learn from us old duffers while we are around. Sometimes we learn ourselves from the young.
