Den. amethystoglossum 'Pauwela'

This is a first bloom of a clone that I purchased in a 2-inch pot in September 2006. The plant is now about 3 feet tall with a massive root structure growing out of the pot. The flowers are pure white overall with lips painted lavender at the tips. The flowers are quite attractive.

It is a beauty. Most of the plants of this species are tall, but some collected plants are relative short and plump.
I find that the taller ones tend to have more flowers and maybe be due to this, most grown clones are tall-slender type.

Wow, very pretty, thank you!

Great culture and photo. You really captured the exuberance of this lucky orchid.

Very healthy indeed.

Thanks for the info Pheli. This is the first time I've seen this dendrobium specie bloom so I did not know what to expect. The open flowers have been blooming for a week now. It does not look like these flowers will be long lasting.

Great pictures! Amethystoglossum is one of my favorite dendrobiums, but I'm a little intimidated by the size. If I was going to get one (like if I get a sunroom or greenhouse) I'd get a tall one like yours.

Thanks for sharing these amazing blooms with us, and doing so with such high-quality pictures!

Gorgeous blooms! And gorgeous photos too. I just love the form of this Den. And the lavender lip is simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, your not kidding about those roots!! HUGE!! The flowers are amazing too! I just picked up a BS plant from the H&R booth at the last show (Windward I think?) so am new to these guys. Did you give it a dry winter or not? Ive got new bud nubbins forming on the canes and I dont want keikis. Also, it seems like this one gets slightly less light than most Dends. Is this true for how you treat it? Thanks Mel!!

P.S. That Dend Forty Niner is doing well with plenty of blooms. I didnt know it was fragrant too! What a treat! Thanks again!

Hi Steve. I've been growing my amethystoglossum in a shady area of the greenhouse. It gets watered and fed continously throughtout the year. Surprisingly, the flowers are still hanging on strong. I have the plant under cover right now to protect the flowers and buds from the rains we've been getting. I'm glad to hear the Forty Niner is doing well.
