I just love that SPRING is here!!!
All of our babies are SOOOO HAPPY NOW!!!
And Sooooo am I!!

I finally was able to put away all my heaters, and plastic covers!!!

My chids are soooo happy to have some warm air back!!

Oh, and the stands don't belong there. They go on the pool deck. I only have them there for Fert purposes.

(..._...) 03-08-2009 05:50 PM

Wow! There are so many blooming! I like those metal stands as well. Good growing! :)

Cam

camille1585 03-08-2009 06:21 PM

You have soooo many in bloom, it's gorgeous!! Looks like the orchids didn't suffer too much from the unusually cold florida winter

carlstraub 03-08-2009 06:39 PM

Great growing area, Beautiful.
Carl

Jkelee 03-08-2009 07:42 PM

Thanks Cam, Camille, and Carl ;)
My babies didn't suffer at all, cause I babied the heck out of them, and kept them nice and warm at night :)

snow 03-08-2009 11:56 PM

wonderfull display.

lostonthebeach 03-09-2009 01:40 PM

What a beautiful bunch of healthy and happy looking plants. WOW !!

MuscleGirl'sHobby 03-09-2009 02:21 PM

I actually called my husband over to see your pictures. I'd like something similar for my 'chids during the summer. You've got such a nice set-up, and a wonderful collection of 'chids!

And I love that you call it the 'chid hotel!

Swamper 03-09-2009 02:26 PM

I still wanna reserve a room in that hotel

Ethan 03-09-2009 02:37 PM

Looks like a good place to go shopping!!! hehe :)

Gorgeous, Jackie!!! Nice job!

Bird Song Farm 03-09-2009 03:02 PM

Whoa, talk about eye candy! Ethan's right, a nice place to go shopping!

Al

BikerDoc5968 03-09-2009 03:34 PM

OK, Jackie...they definitly look beautiful and all hung on the lattice wall. That is a great way to show them off! Just a quick question: When you water, I take it you don't water each individually, that you kinda mass water early and allow to dry during the day, yes???? Not to be more brain-dead than I already am!!!!

Oh, and the other thing...with that drop-dead gorgeous display, you're not trying to give the old BikerDoc a run for his money...are you

Austinerd 03-09-2009 03:38 PM

The doggies are happy that you let them see the flowers.

Jkelee 03-09-2009 08:06 PM

He he, You ALL are some funny Mofo's!!! I love ya's!!

Nichole, someone here on the the OB called it a "Chid Hotel".
Swamper, You got a reservation for 3/10! Can ya make it?!
Ethan and Al, NO WAY! I can't let my babies go away :(
Biker, I do water all at once, with the hose sprayer. Individual, you think I'm NUTS?!
Ethan, my doggies are My Gaurd Doggies, for my chids ;)
And actually those metal stands are never really there. They belong on the pool deck.
I only have them there on Sunday mornings for the Fert time.
I just took these pics at that same time, cause I had so many blooms :)

BikerDoc5968 03-09-2009 08:39 PM

Well, maybe the Florida sun was baking your gray matter... I know when I lived in Ft Myers, I spent most of my day floating in the pool because I had to save as much of the gray stuff as I could...and now there isn't much left, so you'd better be very careful when you're out watering the chids!

cb977 03-09-2009 08:45 PM

Jackie, they look great!

I love your setup, it's lovely!!! :cloud9:

Sandy4453 03-09-2009 08:47 PM

:yikes: WHOA, JACKI!

What a sight, it's spectacular!

:hmmOne tiny wall on my patio that's bare. Latice might be the answer.

Jkelee 03-10-2009 06:56 AM

Thanks Sue, glad you likey ;)
Sandy, whip it up!! It's cheap, and easy, and your chids will love it!!

Ross 03-10-2009 10:04 AM

Wow! Nice display. I take it you're past the heater stage?

PleuroPal 03-10-2009 10:33 AM

Awesome setup. Very clever. You've done some nice work with these babies.

Jkelee 03-10-2009 11:25 AM

Thanks Ross, and Yes, I put away my heaters and plastic on this past Sunday! I HOPE we are DONE with the nasty cold nights!
Thank you Ray, You too, can have a sweet lil setup like this! Go get you some lattice, wood, & shadecloth.
And Waaahlaaa- your done!! :)

susiep 03-10-2009 11:30 AM

Jackie, I love your setup and it is very obvious that the chids love it too! I am planning on doing something like it if I can get my neighbor's permission to use his fence. Hehe! Beautiful job of growing (and tell your hubby beautiful job of building).

Jkelee 03-10-2009 11:54 AM

Thanks Susie!!! I'll let him know :)

As for your nieghbors persmission... No way!!
Just build it on your 'own post's'. You know, buy the two extra post that you would originally used to attach your lattice to-on 'his fence'. Ya know, put those post in line with his fence, and attach your lattice to them, not his fence at all. No good there, if he ever decides to take down that fence, or upgrade do to rotting wood, your hotel is down and gone!!
If you have your 'own post' your stronger, and forever!! And no permission asking!

Basically, for one hotel;
-Buy 4-5 posts- 4x4x8 or 10', depending on how tall your going, and deep, that's your base. Make sure you measure the length of your Lattice. As that's where your attaching them, on the back post. Burry your post at that length. And also in the depth you want- depth of your hotel from the fence, that's where your front post go.
That 5th post is for the middle, stability of your lattice. As I have SOOOO many hanging on them, that I had to 'tie' the top of the lattice to the fence. Cause she was bowing.
-2x6's for framing, and support across top and sides.
-Lattice sheets -I have back and top, sides done. Your choice. I didn't have across the top, until this past weekend. I did that now, cause the squirrels and sun had the shade cloth falling down/in like curtains. Now the lattice on top and sides serves the purpose of strength, and also more places for me to Hang more chids!

And then Shade cloth- Cover her up!! I bought a roll from Lowes and that works great for me!! Chids love it!

Oh, and the blinds from Lowes too. They come in the right size for this, 8' I think they are. The same as the Lattice size is. And in different colors too.

Sorry, but I just wanted to help you out, so you too can enjoy your chids even more!! And so will they :)

Becky15349 03-10-2009 01:22 PM

Is there any vacancy for a large huma...I mean huge orchid? What a beautiful set-up - I seem to remember seeing this before perhaps, didn't your husband build this? It is SO lovely!! :bowing::bowing:

Bob2741 03-10-2009 04:55 PM

Really a Beautiful Collection and Great Growing Area

Jkelee 03-10-2009 05:51 PM

Thanks everyone! Glad you likey!
And yes Becky, you surely have seen it before. My hubby built this, one 'wing' at a time!
I filled the first one, in a month. Then begged for a second one, filled her up!!
Then begged and bargained for the Third, and have OVER filled ALL of them now!!
And TRULY Bargaining for the 4th one!! Don't know how/where I'm going to get that one!!
He's say's "No Room", as others will be in the way. Well maybe, But -SO WHAT!! They won't be in my way ;)

10010100102 03-10-2009 07:05 PM

Wow! I wish I could do something like that in Canada, but I guess our winters have other plans.

Jkelee 03-11-2009 10:02 AM

You Can, just insolate in the winters, and add some Heaters! As I do!

Brenda Aarts 03-14-2009 11:25 AM

More like bring plants inside from mid Sept till May right Joseph...unfortunately. I grow most chids in an arbour for this period and bring in for the winter. I think our winters are a little too severe for heaters etc in out buildings, only my opinion though. Do love your set up Jackie, it's beautiful and has given me some ideas for expansion in a month or 2. Thanks.

Jkelee 03-14-2009 03:25 PM

Thanks Brenda!! I hope you make yourself a nice chid hotel soon!!

Show us your pics please :)

Ok Jackie, first time trying to post pics on O/B so....not sure this is going to work. This is the existing arbor and I can't believe how bare the walls look, as my home looks like a jungle now. I think ( I know ) in the past few months I have been accumulating big time! I will need some shelving for some larger cats., possibly on the outside wall & will have to build an awning with some shade cloth or something as too much sun will fry them. Can hardly wait to get them outside and play around with things. Thanks for your interest.

nenella 03-14-2009 08:57 PM

Brenda that looks wonderful & I look forward to seeing it filled up!

Jkelee 03-15-2009 12:45 PM

OMG Brenda!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
Wish I had room to do that!! I'd filler' up in 2 hrs with my chids!!

That will be sooooo Awesome when you fill her up Brenda!!

One Lucky lady you are!! :)

Brenda Aarts 03-15-2009 01:25 PM

Thanks Jackie. The arbor is by the pond in front of our home. We live on 19 acres, so there is room for expansion for sure. Had husband in the back yard just this morning spray painting grass where we're looking to build a shop, sunroom & guest room, trying to get some idea as to how much sun/ what time of day etc. it will get. My plan worked, clutter up the house with orchids as much as possible and he will get buildin!!!

Jkelee 03-15-2009 02:19 PM

What?? Spray Painting Grass?? You paint your grass?? Tell me more, plz!

And you are one lucky woman living on 19 acres!! Wish I was!!
My chid hotel is by my pond too, koi pond that is. Only about 3000 gal is all :( But my koi are pretty happy there. I just wish everything in my back yard was 'bigger', especially the yard!

I can't wait to see your expansion, and filled up chid hotel :)

Brenda Aarts 03-15-2009 07:50 PM

Not an artistic thing or anything here...had husband spray paint some lines on the grass roughly where the sunroom part of the building would be so that I could watch to see when the sun hits the area and for how long. Yes fortunate to have lots of land, however my sacrifice I guess is that I can't keep my plants outside year round like you!! Not sure how many gallons our pond would be, but it covers approx 1 1/2 acres. We also have coy, but they are HUGE. There are 5 that I've seen and they have to weight 10 - 15 lbs each!! Crazy!

OrchidTess 03-15-2009 08:10 PM

Jackie, your Chid Hotel is one of the most impressive set-ups I have ever seen. I'm in awe each time I look at it.
Brenda it looks like you're going to have a great set-up too!
