Miltonia clowesii f. peloric

Flowering for the second time this year this weird peloric form of Miltonia clowesii. In this clone the peloric traits are seen at the base of the petals and because of them they (the petals) are wide open which is not the case in the regular flowers of the species.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.... For me the vivid color contrast and form are outstanding. Once again, Mauro, your flowers and photographic talents are a work of art of which you should be very proud!

Actually Doc .. I don't care for most pelorics but this one is indeed pretty even with it's slight mutation
(I think I said it better this time)

Dorothy, it is with my most sincere thoughts that I say this, I love this board and you and Susanne and all the others like you that make it so much fun to hang out here. What an absolute pleasure it is to not only get a first rate education but to have tremendous fun getting there! Where else could I reply to a thread with my questionable humor and have it come back to me in spades.....it makes my day, that's for sure!

:thankyou :thankyou :thankyou

The one in the picture looks like a regular Miltonia to me, it is nice but not what i think of as being peloric.

Well, I can't agree, Unhappykat:) . There are several ways the peloric traits appear, not only at the petals tip. Also, the intensity they appear is variable. In this flower, the purple base of the lip is clearly repeated at the base of the petals (the other Miltonia you provided the link repeats the tip of the lip at the tip of the petals, being a different type of peloria). Take a look at the following picture and I believe you're gonna agree that it is different from the type: the petals are strangled more or les in the middle, repeating the same characteristic of the lip, they also have a large purple extension at the base where some crests clearly appears. Additionally, the type M. clowesii is not a flat flower, having the petals projected and in this case, because of the peloria, the petals are perfectly flat.

Thes are two different flowerings of a Mtssa. Shelob 'Tolkien' that mutated into a peloric form.

heres the common form

you can see the dramatic difference not only from the common form to the first picture but also from different cultural settings. The darker peloric flowers developed in a cooler setting while the lighter ones developed outside in the warmth.
