(cheirophorum x ornithorhynchum) It's hard to believe that this tiny thing is related to Sherry Baby!

Ooh its a beautiful little thing, Must smell good over there. Your plant looks wonderful too :D
My overall plant looks like cr@p, not sure why either. Are you growing yours coolish, spraying it down at all? Its also been in spike and buds since late august, any now day I'm sure, oh hum  |
Beautiful blooms, Barbara!
Gloria, mine came in spike, but it doesn't seem to have progressed very far towards opening! So I know how you feel... its got to be soon! I don't spray/mist mine.. but it is in a relatively cool area, I'd say the cool side of intermediate. How much light is your's getting? |
Shak,
My twinkles is along side my catts - 4ft -4 -T8' tubes, about 10 inches from the light source. I know its not light directed I've see those types of spots. Heating tempts DT 72 - NT 68. I thought it might have been the heat not being cool enough, then I found out some folks are growing these outside during the high heats of the summer - some with sunlight. Those looked pretty nice. I had another look at mine this morning, few bulbs aren't looking to snazzy, looks like some kinda fungus/ bacteria related. I'll just try to treat it and hope all goes well :) |
I hope all goes well, too! I'll be waiting to see photos of when your's flowers. Fingers crossed, it will look as nice as Barbara's!
|
Thanks Shakkai, But I'm holding out more for yours, LOL
|
Thank you Lagoon and Shakkai, I'm happy that you both enjoyed it. This one did take a long time to mature those spikes, it was probably about three months ago when we first saw them emerging. Mine is growing under 4ft long lights too and it's only a few inches away from the bulbs. Come to think of it, I believe my sister exchanged a couple plant grow bulbs with 'daylight' bulbs, but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it since it would have initiated those spikes previously.
Gloria, sounds like it has a fungal problem, but I can't know for sure without seeing a picture. Could you perhaps post a shot using macro mode in bright light for the best detail? When did you last repot it? Are you spraying it with water...tried treating it with a fungicide? |
Hi Barb, Yeah thats what I thought. I think I may have a leaf left, LOL! Also got some rotten bulbs, wanna see those? LOL!
No I have treated yet, I will be appling some captain fungicide tomorrow. I get some photos up tomorrow so you can have looky. I appreciate your reply Barb, Thanks :D PS- Sorry for going off topic in your thread :blushing: Edit -Re last repot. This is a young plant, I believe it was in july, few days after I got it. |
Oh dear, I didn't realize it was that bad. Maybe it's a little late, oh well, can't win them all. I just went through and threw away a bunch of Onc & Cattleya alliance that just weren't doing so well either. Now, there's room for some more cool stuff.

Yep Barb, that extra room is always good ;)
Well anyhow, I decide to take out the few bulbs that we're giving me trouble and leave the healthy looking ones. Once I removed the shotty bulbs, I noticed 2 new growths just starting up. So I guess i'll just leave it be for now and see what happeneds. If it doesn't fly then its BUBbye  I did snap a few photos'. Ooh and just for the record I did have 5 spikes :dance13: |
