Others may have a problem. I use chrome, it won't let me type into the search box. When I hit the keys, the box vanishes. But I can copy and paste into it. Also, in the OP's defense, it is a massive data base and sometimes you have to sort through so many posts, it's discouraging. I too sometimes find this site difficult to use...and since we bill ourselves to be friendly, being snippy is counterproductive.

I wasn't trying to be snippy, Carol. I was trying to point out that 99.0% of basic questions have already been answered here. You yourself pointed out the density of date, and posting a question that has been asked and answered multiple times already simply adds to the density and makes searching even more difficult. At this point it's like walking into Target and asking a clerk if they sell clothing.

If a new grower has a question on their specific plant, they really want someone to address their concerns, not to be told to search the overwhelming amount of information and try to apply it to their own problem. That's a sure way to discourage the very people that we want to encourage.

Once they become comfortable with that first plant - or second or third - they will gain the confidence to do the research and find the thrill of success at solving new problems that they encounter. Everybody here was once a newbie at orchid growing, maybe more years ago than we care to remember, but nobody is born knowing this stuff.

I am guilty as well of posting a question that I'm sure has been asked and answered. Because like many others here, the search box disappears when I try to type into it on my phone. And I totally agree that there's so much information and so many hundreds of thousands of posts here that when I want an answer I can find a less exhausting way to get it by just asking the question. Again...

Well, try my trick about the search engine...cut and paste.

John, my dear friend. I apologize if I offended you. I regret my choice of words. However, many of our newbies are frantic and anxious...as I once was. Thanks to you and others, I'm much more confident. Some people just need their hand held.

I've repeatedly tried the cut and paste. It will only do one word. Say for instance I wanted to search Bud blast. I can copy one word and paste one word. So if I copy and paste bud, as you can imagine there are millions of posts. Blast is the same. I cannot add or take away anything and that little search box. Maybe it's just my phone. I will try it at work on break on a computer.

Carol, I'm hard to offend, and especially by you. Probably I'm just tired from showing library users such things as when the sing says we're closed, yes, we really are; no, we've NEVER filed fiction by Dewey Cecimal; yes, the book you borowed last month really will be in the same shelf you got it from then; no, it's really not okay to sit here and have a loud phone conversation; yes, I really can't find the book you say you returned last week; no, just because I can'f find it does NOT mean I'm calling you a liar.
