OSMUNDA FIBER
Default OSMUNDA FIBER

Hi my name is Deborah, I am new to the forum. I don't know anything about Orchids, but I recently purchased some Orchid growing supplies and would like to know where is the best place or way to sell them. I have about a hundred 1qrt bags of Osmunda fiber, about 200 bags of coconut husk and 200 qrt bags of spahagnum moss. I understand that the Osmunda fiber is expensive and rare does anyone have any advise or maybe interested. Thanks for your time.

I forgot to tell you that these are labeled so that is how I know that it is Osmunda fiber, Sphagnum moss and coconut husk.

That is a lot of orchid medium!

Most orchid growers use non-Osmunda growing medium these days. You might get some takers though. No idea what would be reasonable to ask for it.

I get my sphagnum and other media locally in my city. For the sphagnum, price may vary depending on where it originated.

Welcome!

I've never used osmunda, either, but growers from long ago raved over it.

You might want to change your user ID to something that isn't your E-mail address, to prevent spammers from bugging you. One of the moderators can probably help you.

If you truly do have osmunda...you have what could be a small gold mine. It's impossible to find these days and I have also heard of a lot of old time orchid growers rave about it. If it were me...I'd keep and use it for myself but if you're looking to sell it then your best bet might be eBay.

Or, you could just send me all the osmunda for the cost of shipping. I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands.

BTW - the coconut husk isn't rare or expensive but there is a market for it. Same goes for the sphagnum but most orchid growers will want to know the grade (ex long fiber triple A, lesser grades of A, and/or peat type sphagnum) of it and where it's from (ex - NZ, Chile, American, etc) and w/out that information, many orchid growers won't buy it. You could still find buyers in other markets but most orchid growers tend to be pretty picky about the types they want.

As Katrina said, ebay might be your best bet for selling. You could also try on Amazon.
You could also try selling it in the classifieds here and on other forums.
Or contact the orchid societies most local to you and let them know you have some for sale. If it's anything like mine most of the members are over 50 and would be your target market and most likely to have grown orchids in osmunda in the past.

Good Luck in your endeavors.

Thank you both for the information. I really appreciate it. The only way I knew what the stuff is it was written on the boxes. I have a black thumb so I don't think trying to go orchids would be a good thing for me. Lol I will try to sell some in a few places and see what happens. Thanks

Can you post a photo of the packaging/identification label and maybe the contents of one of the packages? Any idea about the provenance of the Osmunda, or its age?

Where are you located? (just state or region/state, like my info says central Fla., Silken is Sask. and Whimgrinder is Corvallis Or.) If you're willing to meet a buyer in your area somewhere public and safe, that might help sell it also. For myself, I'd be interested in the osmunda (have used and love it), but not the others, and with shipping being so high I'd probably only be interested if I could pick it up.
