I did it, I cut the spike. This orchid have been flowering for more than a year- though not on the same spike- this spike started in sept -14. But still, its making new leaf as well, and I decided to cut it in order to save energy. It needed a rest? Yeah? Well, I think so. Kinda felt bad, though :p
It was pretty big

These flowers are more grenish than the orchid in the pics above.

Still need to do something with this poor thing. I have the old pot underneath all thoose roots :p Just throw the whole thing into a bucket… not nice. Soo.. Still thinking ;)

How about a big clay pot with chunky bark? Somehow at my home I ended up with 3 yellow noid phals, so I put them all together in one big clay pot with chunky bark.

Or maybe just in the clay pot without bark, and water the same as you have been. Or just keep in the bucket, it seems to like it?

Helene 08-04-2015 04:34 AM

Yeah, maybe I'll just give it a really big pot and put some bark in. Its not a fussy plant, so its gonna be happy with almost everything, I guess.
I do believe it will grow even more if I give it a medium- now its just roots, and then I need to mist it really often.

This one flowered while I was away, nice to come home to this:

New growth. It needs a repot after blooming. This had some black spots last year, so its standing alone, just in case- dont want my others to get them as well. Looks better this year, though. Kinda big, smells like honey in the afternoons.

Not orchid, but it liked my repotting, growing more new growth after repotting.

Same goes for this one- spiking after I repotted it.

It actually have several new bulbs, gonna bloom pretty heavy I think.

Next year I'm gonna divide it- and have smaller pots, instead of this big one. (70cm)

Helene 08-04-2015 06:36 AM

And I'm planning to build a greenhouse next year.

I also have growing lights- 250w, timer and equipment to measure heat and humidity- but havent used it for orchids- not sure what to do yet- maybe test with some orchids during winter.

Lots of project going on at the same time :p

While I'm thinking what to do next, I read posts in here- and learn a lot from all of you who are posting here :)

Helene 08-04-2015 09:09 AM

Remember this guy? Had it in chunky bark- it dried out, and didnt grow much, shrivelled and not very happy. (Used to be a really big thing, I neglected it and almost killed it, saved this little division from it- and almost killed that as well)

This is from 6.july, when I gave it new mix, that contains more water.

They grow pretty fast, this is today- a month later

Looks a bit happier :)

Before I almost killed it, last year…, never been repotted or anything- growing like crazy. White flowers.

Lol, I'm not very good at repotting my plants, huh :p

Wow! Now that's a keiki village!

Helene 08-08-2015 07:57 AM

This one- the yellow flowering- loves the sun. Only got burnt last year where the leaves touched the window. (Gonna divide it into smaller pots next year, I just repotted the whole plant into this big pot…)

The new growth just loved being repotted. First time I repot this, bought it in 2010… happy plant in new medium😎

No-Pro-mwa 08-08-2015 12:04 PM

Looks good. They did need a re-pot.

Helene 08-09-2015 06:56 PM

Its past midnight, I'm having a repotting bonanza, I assume😜

These two tonight:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...03c142f88b.jpg

This is a NOID from ikea- only had it a month or maybe two. Had to repot, sick (details in this thread for those who cares :p http://www.orchidboard.com/community...un-fungus.html )
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...89476f5d52.jpg

I bought it because I liked the color
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...3d7bc7d9d0.jpg
When there is very bright light, it looks like a really dark shade of red. But in normal light both the leaves and the flower looks almost black.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...817cda1086.jpg

Anyway, repotting. And my other orchids seems to grow sideways- so I potted this the way it felt naturally to pot him.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...e5d24afda9.jpg
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...fde293f9a0.jpg

Looks like a happy plant now. No more bugs and no more black thingy.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...1708bb1a35.jpg

This I got as a present, had three spikes, done flowering and just needed a repot.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...43819e120b.jpg
Yeah… I think that repot was in due time…
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...bbcb4af9d4.jpg
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...637aeb0707.jpg

😂
Looks healthy, though😎

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...d3b9c7fde5.jpg

Cut the three spikes, removed a few roots and potted in new pot. I would have liked a bit wider pot, but didnt have any. So maybe I'll need to repot next year.
When I filled the bark in the pot, and the plant it just got a bit more sideways than what I intended.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...7ccfebdbb1.jpg

Easier growing them the way they want, so guess this is okay atm. New leaf and healthy roots. You can see the spikes I cut, a bit of cinnamon to help heal.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...e17e73d8be.jpg

Job well done, I think. Now I can go to bed😎

Tomorrow:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...d611e86c1b.jpg
Just had a bath- but its been in the same mix for years. Need to buy some bigger pots tomorrow.

Repotting is fun😃😎 Like meditation- nutrition for the soul😊

Helene 08-10-2015 03:19 PM

I'm still at that repotting bonanza.

Well- here is how you know repotting is in due time:
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...17347efcff.jpg
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08...dff93b9548.jpg
When your plant don't even need the pot anymore, to stand up tall…😂

Lol… well, gonna update later tonight how this all works out for me😜
